Miss Florence Perry was at the centre of a strong and vibrant musical culture in Clunes which featured a brass band, a men's mouth organ band, an orchestra and church choirs. The success of Miss Perry's choirs in competitions was a source of pride in the town and a cause for celebration. After their success in Melbourne in 1906, the Juvenile Choir were greeted at the Railway Station on their return by the brass band and well wishers before attending an impromptu concert at the Town Hall. Miss Perry herself was born in Clunes in 1880 and worked as a music teacher in the town. Her father was the conductor of the Clunes Orchestra. This music stand belonged to Eva Veronica Gaspar. Miss Gaspar (1913 -1978) was one of Warrnambool's most notable musicians and photographers. She gave free music lessons to Warrnambool and district children, organised choral festivals and ran a printing business. She was a life member of the Warrnambool Music Society and organized the Mozart Music Festival for many years. She was a Warrnambool Citizen of the Year 1956 and was awarded a British Empire Medal in 1972 for her services to music. She also conducted the Warrnambool Civic Orchestra, St. Joseph's church choir, junior choirs and recorder groups. In 1977 she held an exhibition at the Warrnambool Art Gallery of her photographs, drawings and monochromes. This music stand was used by Eva Gaspar mainly in Mozart Hall in Gilles Street. This stand is of interest as a memento of the work of Eva Gaspar an important musician in Warrnambool in the twentieth century.This is a wooden music stand with a circular base on four feet. The base has an outer ridge with a shallow indent and a domed top into which the pedestal is attached. The pedestal has decorative features . The ledge at the top is rectangular shaped with a projecting curved edge at the base. The top has a compartment for holding music and/or notes. The pedestal is attached to the top tray with a circular brace and metal screws. The whole item has been varnished but is stained and rubbed. During 1944 - 1952 the school had an elocution teacher on staff, Miss Marjorie James. In 1945 the Clarendon Junior Verse-Speaking Choir came second at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod. The Junior School has continued to represent the school at South Street in Choral Verse-Speaking. This card was presented to George Davidson when he passed the Junior School examination held by St. John's Tonic Sol-Fa Association in 1877. The Tonic Sol-Fa was a technique used for teaching sight singing, invented in the 18th century and further developed, popularised and used extensively by singing teachers in the 19th century. The St. John's Tonic Sol-Fa Association was an extension of the choir of St. John's Presbyterian Church in Warrnambool and the conductor (and the teacher whose name is on this card) was T. L.Campbell. He was a well-known singing and music teacher in Warrnambool in the second half of the 19th century and specialized in the teaching of the viola, violin and violincello. George Davidson (1860-1941) was the son of John and Isobel Davidson, pioneer settlers in the Warrnambool district.This card is of some interest as a memento of the music scene in Warrnambool in the second half of the 19th century with references to T.L. 20th Eltham Community Festival and last under the auspices of the Shire of Eltham. The Grand Parade focussing on the theme "Echoes of Eltham - Celebrating the visions of Eltrham from the past and into the future" was headed by Jock Read on his horse Lofty who had been filmed in an Anzac Day Parade on an earlier horse which had featured in the television show Matlock. The parade travelled north along Main Street to just past the Post Office then back south to Panther Place. At the end of the video is a promotional video for Dynavision Video Production, a local video production company that produced the video and Diamond Photos (Kodak Express). One of the highlights of the festival was a tree planting ceremony in Alistair Knox Park to celebrate 123 years of the Shire of Eltham led by Shire President Cr. The Ballarat Junior Technical School opened in 1913 under the jurisdiction of the Ballarat School of Mines. The first Principal was Albert W. Steane. Blue, hardcovered book with blue lined pages that have been written on in ink. The reports from 1923 are written by Ballarat Junior Technical School Principal Albert Stean, and have been countersigned by William Henry Middleton. From 1944 the reports were signed by C. Jeffery. and the one from 1949 they was signed by Mr Cutter. It was then known as Tintern Ladies College. In 1918 it was taken over by the Church of England. From its inception it has sent out into the world women who have played an important part in the life of the community — as Doctors, Scientists, Lawyers, Teachers, University Lecturers, Heads of Schools and Colleges, Musicians, Artists, Architects, Nurses, Missionaries, Social Service Workers, Journalists, Business Women and Home-Makers. Tintern girls have served their country in the Boer War and in the two World Wars. The school has maintained throughout the years a high scholastic standard. It has achieved outstanding successes in the Public Examinations in both Arts and Science subjects. In this year 1948 thirty Tintern girls are doing courses at the University. In Mrs. Cook’s day the school was noted for its music. It has now a flourishing orchestra, and Tintern choir was amongst those chosen to broadcast in Education Week 1947. Art and Craft have an important place in the curriculum. Games such as hockey, tennis and croquet were started as early as the 1880s. In 1900 the girls were daring enough to start a bicycle club. Nowadays Tintern plays baseball, basketball, hockey and tennis. As the years have passed the curriculum has been widened and buildings have been added — the senior classrooms in 1918, the laboratory block in 1930, the Junior School (the gift of Sir William Angliss) in 1937, the library (the gift of Mr. E. R. Cullen) in 1938, the craft house in 1938 and the Domestic Science kitchen in 1946. ESTABLISHED 1877"

Herbert G Uren joined Neil Street Methodist Church in 1906. In 1909 he was Superintendent of Warranheip Sunday School and in 1913 became the Superintendent of the Neil Street Junior School. In 1923 he was appointed the Senior Superintendent of Neil Street Junior School. H G Uren was one of the founders of the Sunday School Union, holding office as Vice President and President. He was actively associated with the Neil Street Christian Endeavour Movement from 1906. Also with the Ballarat and District Christian Endeavour Union for 25 years, holding the offices of Vice President, Assistant Secretary and Secretary. H G Uren was a Neil Street Church Steward and a Trustee for many years. He was a member of the Council of Churches for 30 years with the offices of Treasurer, Convener of Committees and minute Secretary. He organized the choir for Charles M Alxander in November 1912. H G Uren was Knight Commander of the Neil Street Methodist Order of Knights from 1933 and was awarded the Gold Star of the Order. Paper Methodist Order of Knights warrant.
