Pamphlet, folded sheet with a tear off comments section, manila colour card, printed in blue ink, titled "Z3 Tram - Souvenir of the Introduction of New Series Trams to Melbourne", for the launch of the Z 3 class tram. Has a sketch of Z 3 116. Provides a list or details of the changes to the tram from the Z 1 Z 2 types. Tear off section could be handed to the conductor. Yields information about the first series of Geelong trams in 1912.Postcard, divided back of one of the first Geelong trams in the depot. No number can be seen on the front of the tram. The first batch was numbered 1 to 10. Note the detail painting on the piece of vertical panel at the end of the saloon. Note the track brake. Based on the door spacing, it would appear that they are W class trams, or possibly W1 class trams. The Preston Workshops commenced to producing W class trams late 1926. In the foreground is a bandsaw, workers sorting timber, lockers, storage racks, and benches with workers assembling items and other machinery. Photograph shows W4 class tram 670, the first of the batch of five. Has a background that has been whited out. On the rear the technical details of the tram have been typed onto the sheet. The tram was the first wide body type produced by the MMTB, though placed on 33" wheels. The W5 class followed the W4 and was placed on 28" wheels to lower the body. Photograph shows W class tram No. 364 built as the "Prototype" for the W1 class. Destination City 5th edition page 25 advises "W class 364 was completed in 1925 with an open drop centre and longitudinal seats fixed facing outwards." It was renumbered during 1927 to 422 as a W1 class tram to fit in with the series of W1 class trams. The tram was built originally at the Holden St workshops. The Department of Transport produced the Melbourne " Next Generation" G class tram badge to thank the team members involved in its design and production. As many of the team members came from Germany, the German translation was included on both sides of the card. Note from one of the production team was: "Staff from the Department of Transport and Planning – Next Generation Trams project team led a self-funded initiative to produce a commemorative badge of the Melbourne " Next Generation" G class tram. These were issued as gifts to persons involved in its design and production to mark the start of series manufacturing. The card it is mounted to is typeset in the proprietary “Network Sans” font, in both Australian English and Austrian German; including a special translated version of the Next Generation Trams Project logo. Has three options for delivery - 200 four-axle trams, 100 four-axle and 60 six-axle or 120 six-axle articulated trams. The last was selected. Tenders closed 27/4/1984. The donor used the book to superintend the contract by Comeng Dandenong. Has many notes for future engineering reference.
