This tram was built in 1917 for the Hawthorn Tramways trust. It was originally No. 15. Came to Ballarat in 1945. Renumbered in 1953 to No. 36. It was returned to Hawthorn in 1971 but then taken by the Tramway Museum Society of Victoria. This tram was built in 1913 by Duncan and Fraser in 1913 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It began service as their Number 35. It was classified "C" by the Melbourne Tramways Board. In 1951 it was sold to the State Electricity Commission of Victoria and renumbered 40. This tram was the last Ballarat tram to operate by the SEC to officially carry passengers in Ballarat on 19 September 1971. Tram 40 had a Maximum Traction truck bogie (eight wheels), drop end and centre combination. The photograph shows the tram on Drummond Street at the Urquhart Street loop. Urquhart Street Primary School was opened on 09 December 1878 by the Minister of Public Instruction, Major William Collard Smith. The school originated from Errard School no 227 which was extablished by the Presbyterian Church as early as 1860.Brick School building with bell tower known as Urquhart Street Primary School.
