"In 1966, the Mount Cottrell Fire Brigades Group was formed as a way of consolidating the smaller groups around Melton, Rockbank, Toolern Vale, Sydenham, Truganina and Werribee. Its headquarters were established at the home of Ernest ‘Bon’ and Edna Barrie in Ferris Road, Melton. Captain Bon Barrie was a member of the Melton Fire Brigade and elected group and communications officer of the new Mount Cottrell Brigades Group". Fire Brigade Meeting 14th September held at Rockbank Formation a new Group in Region 14 Present: R/O H Rothsay, Assistant R/O R Orchard Tru? G Summerton Purpose of Group The pooling of the equipment in the area should be co-ordinated under one leader. The Brigade and private equipment should be co-ordinated under one leader. Formation was carried unanimously. To be called Mt Cotterill Group. Rockbank nominated Captain E W Barrie elected, Secretary K Watt Toolern Vale. The Storey Dance Orchestra was formed in the 1920s by Arthur Storey, playing voilin & banjo, sister Rita-saxaphone,Jean and brothers Bob and Ben. Later, their mother, also Jean, an accomplished pianist and supporter of the orchestra, filled the pianist role after Jean left home to further her career. The car in the photograph was paid for with orchestra earnings. Their music involvement enabled a large family to sustain the farm during the 1920s and 1930s. World-War-Two intervened, this saw the Storey Orchestra disperse, Bob joined Jean in Melbourne, where they continued their musical careers. Ben joined the war effort, leaving Arthur on the farm. The Towaninnie Methodist Church no longer exists but on the Towaninnie plains a location sign marks it. In common with many church communities the faithful who met here were very patriotic and their young men were strongly supported when they volunteeered during the Great War of 1914 -'18. This Honour Board once hung on the Methodist Church wall but is now at the Pioneer Settlement,Swan Hill.The actual Honour Board is believed to be the only one of its type with this listing. This photo of it contributes to and is part of a Local, State and National collection of War memorabilia that honours our servicemen and women.Wooden framed Roll of Honour photo - Towaninnie Methodist Church listing of 21 local WW1 servicemen. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. Property now known as Eversley, formerly Nulmore then Brampton. From Caulfield Heritage Management Plan 1996 by Andrew Ward In 1888, C. Hume owned lots 61, 62 and 63 in the Kooyong Park Estate, on the northwest corner of Gladstone Parade and Clarence Street. In 1889 Thomas B. Jackson, architect, of Shoobra Road, purchased the land and in the same year built a ten roomed brick house on lot 63 and part lot 62. Jackson leased the property to William Dalrymple in 1890. By 1894, the property was owned by P. Langwill and leased to James Ainslie, an accountant. By 1899, Frederick Henriques had moved into the house, which was known as ''Nulmore". In 1910, the house was vacant. In 1920, it was leased to Augustine Barbeta who continued to live there in 1930. By 1934, the house was renamed ''Brampton". ''Nulmore" is locally important as an unusually imposing Elizabethan influenced villa in Caulfield, comparing with nos. 34 and 25 Gladstone Parade. Its link with local architect Thomas B Jackson is of interest. He built the two red brick houses, each of 10 rooms, known as "Kenly" and "Nulmore" (later "Brampton") in that year. By 1894, P. Langwill had purchased the property, leasing it to Fred Henriques, an accountant. Alfred Pearson a government chemist, was occupying tenant by 1899. The property was known as ''Kenly''. In 1910, the house was vacant, however, in 1920, James Edmends was living there and continued to do so in 1930. By 1941, Edmends had moved to No. 32, and Alfred Williamson was in residence. "Kenly'' is important as an unusually imposing Elizabethan influenced villa in Caulfield, comparing with nos. 25 and 36 Gladstone Parade. Rhylstone Park in Thompson Avenue, Cowes, was the home of Mr Vaughan. Later run as a clock museum then a B & B until approx 2007.A brick house built by Mr Joseph Vaughan about 1890. This image provides an additional later modified building view to that of the image of the original single storey building image published on back page of the 1910 MTS Annual Report. According to the Annual Report of 1915 the plans to build a residence on top ( the 2nd storey ) of the Port Melbourne building got the go ahead to commence and opened 1916. Originally designed by architect, Frederick Williams, who built the first brick Mission at Port Melbourne in the 19th C. Walter Butler was commissioned for the second storey.The Port Melbourne building in the image established in the 19th C., still survives. It was a key centre of operations for the Mission prior to the building of the Mission near Australian Wharf in 1907 and prior to the eventual opening of the current "Central Mission" in 1917. NB operations of The Port Melbourne Branch Mission were eventually transferred to the King George V memorial Building, dedicated in December 1937 but demolished in 1995. The objection is handwritten and refers to the Trust's 8th December letter. 3223 F - 15 Dec 1986, item 10 (2888/86) of the Ordinary meeting of Bendigo Council regarding submission by Defors Holdings Pty. Ltd. and Aldal Pty. The Faram brothers purchased this building from Margaret McLean (who had run it as a general store) in August 1919. This photograph records the making and placing of the concrete blocks for the construction of the Warrnambool Breakwater in the Warrnambool Harbour, completed in 1890. Each block weighed 20 to 30-plus tons. The huge Titan steam powered crane in the photograph played a massive role in the construction. It was able to lift the concrete blocks with its overhanging, counterbalanced arm and roll on its wheels along the rails to the required position. It then lowered the blocks into position on the concrete foundation already laid on the seabed. There are many details in the photograph that help to tell other aspects of Warrnambool's history. It appears that the photograph was once owned by B. Fisher. The photograph is part of the Western Victoria collection produced in 1891 by Brookes' Photographic Union in Victoria. Brookes' Photographic Union was a collaboration of two brothers, Frederick Augustus Brookes and his brother Albert Edward Brookes. Frederick arrived in Victoria in the early 1880's. He and Albert formed the organisation to produce collections of photographs including the districts of Geelong, Gippsland and the Western Victoria.This photograph was taken during the construction of the Warrnambool Breakwater and published the year after it was completed. The project began with the Government of 1874 approving the plan, and was completed in 1890. The image records a snapshot of the construction of the Warrnambool Breakwater, a construction that changed the history of the Port of Warrnambool, Photograph, sepia coloured rectangular shape, mounted between two sheets of cream card. The M.B. John Trade–Art building (Albert Street front) of SMB was officially opened by the Hon. John Cain, Premier of Victoria, in the presence of Morgan B. John. Programs include 3 Dimensional Art, Painting & Decorating, and Engineering Trades. (SMB Institutional Plan 1989) The M.B. John Building (Building K), a three storey, face red brick, restrained Late Twentieth Century International styled building with an elongated, cuboid form (defined by the parapeted facades) that is offset by projecting exposed concrete framed, round‐arched entrance and stair wells on the east (Albert Street) elevation (the centrally located entrance breaking the brick façade with glazing). The facades are also characterised by banks of aluminium framed, horizontal ribbon windows, which wrap around the building corners. Metal shades project beyond the windows, while post‐supported bullnosed verandahs and hoods and projecting concrete stairs are other features. On the west elevation, the cuboid façade is punctuated by projecting curved concrete and glazed, elongated bays at first floor level.
