Eng v Vict at MCG Nov 1936 B113"....Glass plate negative Fagg caught behind 1ST Innings. Eng v Vict at MCG Nov 1936 Photograph Bull, Hugh Jones, 1897-1993 ...Victorian batsman IAN LEE cuts a ball through a full slips cordon, bagging one of nine boundaries during his innings of 160 runs The attacking field placements of four slips, a gully and a point indicate that midway through Victoria’s innings, the MCC bowlers continued to believe they could deceive Ian Lee the batsmen with flight through the air, or movement off the pitch, causing a snick behind the bat. This task was made all the more difficult, because Lee was left-handed, and his partner Gregory was a right-hander. Lee and Gregory’s record 4th wicket partnership of 262 runs in just over 180 minutes indicates the MCC did not succeed. The pinafore was a treasured family heirloom, and was not worn again. ...This handmade pinafore was worn by the donor, Ellen Brown, at her christening in 1905. It was made by Ellen's grandmother, Mrs Beeching, for the first daughter born in the Fagg family. The pinafore was a treasured family heirloom, and was not worn again. It is a rare example of a modest, homemade christening costume. Most costumes were gowns, but this humble pinafore still shows loving attention to detail. The connection between milestone moments and the wearing of a particular garment carries great significance. The christening gown represents the rites of passage: great importance is placed on the clothing, as well as the ceremony. This is a white cotton infant's christening pinafore, round neck with a flounce, sleeveless with a sash attached at the front and tied at the back. There are lace inserts and lace at the hemline. Tucks are machined as embellishments and a tie at the back of the neck.lace, celebrations, handmade, white, brown, ceremony, textile, cotton, bacchus marsh, brown family, 1905, mrs beeching, fagg family, pinafore, infants clothes, rituals, fagg, costumes, family heirloom, christening, ellen brown -

Unusually, when working with a fast bowler, BEN BARNETT is positioned very close to the stumps, making his successful catch all the more difficult. Due to the wet ball and soggy run up, and the prevailing southerly wind, the wily Victorian Captain, HANS EBELING, firstly altered his run up length. He was now bowling more at medium pace, hoping to increase the chances of deceiving with movement off the pitch and flight through the air. The Ebeling plan was successful as he sent the MCC opening pair back to the Pavilion. McFarlane giving a clue to the identity of the man on horseback in this image. ...This image shows part of a street procession moving along Main Street Bacchus Marsh. The location is in front of the Mechanics Institute building. Two connected tricycles can be seen in the foreground. The Bacchus Marsh Express on 9 April 1904 described an ANA Sports day procession which included "two tricycles which were used for an ingenious travesty of a motor car". The same report also described two characters mounted on horses who were dressed as 'Beefeaters'. Beefeaters, are officially known as Yeomen Warders. They are the ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London in England. They originated in 1485 and the ceremonial style of dress most associated with them resembles that worn by the man on horseback in this image. The two Bacchus Marsh 'Beefeaters identified by the Express in 1904 were C. Fagg and P.A. McFarlane giving a clue to the identity of the man on horseback in this image. The style of people's clothing in the picture suggests it is from around the 1890s or 1900s, and the presence of the Tricycle suggests it could be 1904. The event associated with the street parade is not known for certain. But from descriptions in the Bacchus Marsh Express in the 1900s it appears it is part of the Bacchus Marsh branch of the Australian Natives Association (A.N.A,) annual sports festival which was held over the Easter period.
