This badge was issued to supporters of the 1980s campaign called ‘Citizens Against Ferguson Street Extension’. Ferguson Street is in East Warrnambool and at the time the road was formed but there were no houses on the north side. The proposal was to extend the street at the north east end so that access could be made to east Warrnambool and Deakin University. The local residents opposed the proposal because it would increase traffic in the quiet suburban areas. The scheme did not go ahead. This badge is of minor interest as an example of a local campaign against an unpopular City Council proposal. This is a green circular-shaped badge made of plastic. It has black printing with a sketch of three Norfolk Island pine trees on the front and a metal clip at the back for attachment to a person’s clothing. Councillor Ernest Walter Jackson was elected to the Williamstown Council in December 1937 and served as Mayor of Williamstown during 1945, 1949 and 1957. He was a local funeral director and undertaker based on Ferguson Street, Williamstown. The E.W. No. 195-203 Nelson Place was designed by CJ Polain and constructed in 1889. The Salisbury buildings are recorded in the Hobsons Bay Heritage Study Amended 2017 and has a Heritage Overlay No. HO223. Dr Hector Rath Maclean was a well-respected local doctor and second-generation Williamstown doctor.

He was born in Williamstown and was the third son of Dr David Purdie Maclean, a local doctor (and coroner) since the 1850s.

Maclean attended Williamstown Grammar together with Charles Merritt, later Sir Charles. Dr. H.R .Maclean died at the family home in Parker Street on the 27th August 1934, aged 72.
A memorial to Dr Maclean was erected in front of the Senior Citizens building in Ferguson Street.

A cheque writer is a machine for printing cash amounts in words on cheques. The cheques are rolled through the machine by placing them on the flat metal platform and then turning the handle to print a preset amount. Words to be printed are selected by the index pointerin pounds, shillings and pence. This Protectograph cheque writer was made around 1916 in New York. Williamstown was first incorporated as a borough on 14 March 1856. It became a town on 2 April 1886, subdivided into four wards in 28 October 1887 and was proclaimed a city on 17 May 1919. The city was proclaimed by His Excellency the State Governor, the Hon. Sir Arthur Stanley on 17 May 1919. At the same time he unveiled a photographic honour board in memory of local soldiers killed during World War One and officially opened the Town Hall/Council Chambers building at 104 Ferguson Street. The Governor was presented with this proclamation and asked to sign the parchment. The official birth of the city was celebrated by 2000 residents. Charles Ferguson was born on 11 April, 1813 in South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. He was the son of Charles Ferguson (1771-1813), a carpenter, and Janet, nee Ross (1786-1868). Captain Charles Ferguson became the state of Victoria’s first Chief Harbour Master in February, 1852. In the same year he began to perform the duties of both a Police Magistrate and a Water Police Magistrate for Williamstown and became a big landholder in the colony. When Dr. Hector Rath Maclean died in August 1934 he was Williamstown's oldest and most honored medical practitioner. He died at his home in Parker Street Williamstown. He was 72 years old, and was born in Cecil Street Williamstown, on February 25, 1862. He studied medicine at Melbourne University and Edinburgh University. At the outbreak of the war, he volunteered for service with the 1st Australian General Hospital, and saw service at Egypt, from where he volunteered for service at Gallipoli as a member of the 5th and 7th Light Horse. Dr. Maclean was a founder of the local Williamstown hospital, to which he was senior physician and surgeon. He was also the port health officer and health officer to the city council. Well known in the community, a Grand Benefit Concert was organised in her honour on 9th April, 1910, at the Mechanics Institute, Williamstown. Hosted by Mayor Cr. Wymark, the event featured a delightful program of musical performances, showcasing both individual talents and the Carlton Club Choir.
