On the 19th of January, 1983, Cynthia Shone of Frankston received a Tattersall's Award for Enterprise and Achievement. The award was presented by Frankston MLA, Jane Hill. This photo appears on page 3 of the Vol 1 No 1, March 1983 issue of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria's quarterly newsletter, News Review. According to the brief article beneath the photo, Mrs Shone received the award "for her ingenuity in inventing simple aids for fellow arthritics which allow them to be more self-sufficient". "The History of Australasia" by David Blair was one of three important publications of the author. Written in 1879, the book relates the history of both Australia and New Zealand from their discovery through to the establishment of self-government in both colonies. Blair was born in Ireland and after studying for the ministry in Ireland came to Australia in 1850. Instead of a missionary career he took up journalism, became a member of the Legislative Assembly in Victoria and published his books on Australasia.A large thick hard leather covered book -History of Australasia by David Blair and published in 1879. The covers are black with a gold pattern border. The front cover shows an embossed Australian crest in gilt with kangaroo and emu and ' Advance Australia'. Mackay John Scobie Gair (1847-1941) was a Councillor in the North Ward in Brighton, elected Mayor in 1892-93. Robert Burrowes was born in Canada in 1826 and came to Australia and Bendigo in 1853. He initially opened a boot and shoe shop in Pall Mall and latera wine and spirit and grocery store in High Street. He was elected to the Bendigo Council in 1856. In 1855 he started the first fire brigade. In 1858 he married Sarah Ellen Vickery. He was elected to Parliament as the member for Bendigo and served 1866 -1877 and again 1880 - 1893. This plaque commemorated the October 16th, 1965 opening of a new pavilion at Emerald Recreation Reserve (now known as Worrell Reserve). The pavilion was opened by Mr William Archibald Borthwick, at that time a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly representing the electorate of Scoresby. It was built to serve the needs of local sports teams including the Emerald Cricket Club. The 1965 pavilion was replaced in 2021.This plaque commemorates a now-renovated building playing an important role in facilitating sporting and recreation in the local community over more than five decades.A rectangular wooden plaque, with partially faded text painted on one side in a landscape orientation. The stone wall is part of the terraces that were built into the hillside at the winery at Goonawarra. They were constructed in the early days when the vineyard was established to terrace the hillside for growing vines. The winery was originally established by Joh Goodall Francis, a former member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. He acquired a parcel of crown land and proceeded to develop it as a vineyard. The terraces were built by vignerons, who were employed to work on the property. Goonawarra Winery was one of a number of vineyards that were established in the Sunbury area in the 1800s. Thomas Langdon (1832-1914) was born in Somerset, England and came to Australia in 1853. He started in Bendigo as a miner and carter before beginning farming at Laanacoorie. He married twice; Esther Temlett in 1855 and Sarah Coventry in 1862. He was elected to the Marong Shire Council in 1871 and went on to become a member of the Victorian parliament.
