The Battle of Jerusalem occurred during the British Empire's "Jerusalem Operations" against the Ottoman Empire, when fighting for the city developed from 17 November, continuing after the surrender until 30 December 1917, to secure the final objective of the Southern Palestine Offensive during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of World War I. He was the first Christian in many centuries to control Jerusalem, which is a very important site for many faiths. This piece of music has been produced during World War Two (1941) as a propaganda and fund-raising piece for the people of Alexandria in Egypt. It has both Greek and British backing with the headings on the cover in both languages. The music is a march and the title suggests that victory is on the way so the emotions are being stirred to keep up the morale. Egypt in World War Two was still under British influence and Alexandria is a port in Egypt at the mouth of the Nile River. In 1941 British battleships were based in the Alexandria harbor and two of them were disabled by Italian Navy divers. Hence it is not clear why it was the Hellenic (Greek) Red Cross raising funds for Alexandria through the sale of this music which was produced in that city by the Moharrem Press (founded 1938) and composed by Lena Bonfiliou, probably a Greek person. It is not known if this piece of music was bought in Australia or brought back to Australia by an Australian military person during World War Two.This is an interesting piece of music. Its connection to Warrnambool is not known but it is an example of the type of music produced during World War Two to help the war effort. This is a four page piece of music, ‘On the Road to Victory’ (a march) with a front cover, a blank end page and two pages of musical notation. The latter pages have black printing on white pages. The front cover has both Greek and English printing and a colour image of four British and Greek flags resting on a gun carriage with armaments underneath and indications of an explosion. There is a red stamp on the cover (Hellenic Red Cross). The pages are in good condition. Dr Rupert Goodman was in Perth to launch his book 'Our war nurses - The history of the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps 1902 - 1988'. It was launched at the Naval Military and Air Forces Club of WA where about 150 for war nurses attended. In his book, Rupert calls out Major-General Gordon Bennett to accept some blame for the terrible fate that befell the nurses in the fall of Singapore in February 1942. Bennett had refused to let tje nurses to pm January 20 because he said it was bad for civilian morale in Singapore, a decision that "undoubtedly cost many lives later'. Perhaps the most harrowing experience of an army nurse belongs to the nurses of World War 1. "There were 600 men and not one with a whole face," wrote Sister Gertrude Moberly. "some of them had had 13 operations." The wage increase was in line with award rates. Salaries rose by 51.8% from June1983 to April 1990. Programme of the 9th Australian Division Gymkhana held 19th and 20th January 1945 at Herberton Racecourse, Atherton Tableland, Queensland. The event featured a wide array of sporting, military, and horse racing events to boost morale and physical readiness. The carnival was a massive logistical gathering for the "Magnificent 9th" prior to their final amphibious deployments to Borneo. The Australian War Memorial maintains historical film coverage of this specific event. Item belonged to Robert Francis ISKOV VX15237 served with the 59th Battalion/Hume Regiment CMF before joining the 2/14th Battalion at Caulfield in September 1940. He disembarked for the Middle East in November, 1940 and fought in the Syrian campaign in 1941. In 1942 the 2/14th Battalion returned to Australia and sent to Papua where he fought at the Battle of Isurava before the battalion was sent to Gona. In 1943 Bob returned to Australia to undertake officer training and in 1945 with the 2/23rd Battalion sailed to Morotai and served with the battalion on Tarakan.
