... upriver on the Murray River in 1985. The paddle steamer Pevensey..., enjoying the ride. Moored at the wharf is the paddle steamer ...The paddle steamer Adelaide is under full steam travelling upriver on the Murray River in 1985. The paddle steamer Pevensey(named Philadelphia in the mini series All the Rivers Run) is moored at the historic wharf at Echuca. This is the first run of the Adelaide after being fully restored and put back into action. After spending many years in the Hopwood gardens as a static display, the paddle steamer Adelaide was returned to the river where she was fully restored and then recommissioned by Prince Charles and Lady Diana. The Adelaide is now the oldest wooden hulled paddle steamer operating on any river in the world. She was originally built in 1866 in Echuca. This is her first run ,after being fully restored, with passengers.Black & white photograph showing the Adelaide under full steam in the centre of the river on trial day 1985. On the deck are visitors, enjoying the ride. Moored at the wharf is the paddle steamer Pevensey - she has the name board of the Philadelphia, her name in the mini series All the Rivers Run. On the wharf itself the crane is visible just to the right of the red gum trees.Adelaide on Trial Day. 1985 H.Coulson Collection -
