Demonstrates how the SEC used enameled signs to convey instructions to passengers, and confirm the advice of the conductor.Enameled metal sign, black capital letters and border lines on an off- white background. Reverse enameled in black. Sign reads "Passengers must not travel in this compartment". The writing appears to have been stenciled over the white enamel base. The enameling has broken away from areas near the two screw holes formed to attach the sign to the compartment. An attempt has been made to address damage with paint. Yields information about an event and its location, but the date of the event is unknown at this time.Sign - painted onto a SEC (very similar to a MMTB auxiliary destination board of the type that could hang on the front of a Ballarat tram car with the words "Bell St Only" on the front and a paper advert on the rear for the Homes and Industries Fair, at the Drill Hall in Curtis St. Has another former painted advertising sign underneath. Date of use not known at the time of acquisition. To be researched. Bell St was a destination on the Ballarat Destination roll, so it may have been used on trams which were not fitted with full destination rolls and then recycled by the SEC for advertising means. The photo taken at the corner of Moorabool and Malop Streets is looking south along Moorabool St. Shows Geelong tram 4 with the destination of North, about to turn into Malop St with several passengers boarding the tram. In the background is a safety zone sign, the Solomons store, the T&G building, and many angle-parked motor cars. The T&G building is finished. Photograph of Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo) Ballarat tram 18 in Wendouree Parade with the Gardens Kiosk in the background. Tram has a roof advertisement for Monosylk hosiery. There is a safety zone sign and two gentlemen standing alongside. The safety zone and line markings are unusual in Ballarat where passengers alighted or boarded on the lake side of the roadway.
