This uniform was donated by a RAEME member who served during the Vietnam War. The Corps began sending advisers to Vietnam in 1964 and this foreshadowed a massive build- up of RAEME personnel and equipment which peaked in 1971. The first direct RAEME support was provided in early 1965 as part of 1 Aust Logistic Support Coy (1 ALSC). Prior to 1971 the RAEME elements of 1 Australian Logistic Support Group built up to a stage where there were two field workshops. The withdrawal of all Australian forces was completed in 1972 and RAEME reverted to its peacetime role.This uniform was worn by a member of the Wodonga community who served with RAEME during the Vietnam War. RAEME Corps members are also represented at the Army Logistic Training Centre at Bandiana.Australian Military uniform - this uniform was issued during Australia's involvement in the Vietnam war. RAEME personnel are represented in most Army units. The Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers corps motto is ‘Arte et Marte’, which is Latin for ‘With Skill and Fighting’. This item, was presented to the Council of the Rural City of Wodonga in 1978. RAEME has a strong connection with the city of Wodonga through its service and training facilities at the Bandiana base on the edge of Wodonga. A shield shaped plaque carved with the emblem of RAEME corps (The Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers corps). The edge of the shield is decorated with carved leaves. An engraved metal plate has been attached to acknowledge the presentation of the plaque to the Council of the Rural City of Wodonga. The rearing horse and chain are symbolic of power under control and the lightning flash, of electrical engineering. The rearing horse also forms part of the crest of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and, together with the lightning flash, is intended to mark the close relationship which exists between the electrical and mechanical engineers in both civil and military life. The inscription on the side of the base reads: "Presented to the Citizens of the Rural City of Wodonga by the Commanding Officer and members of RAEME Trg Centre on the occasion of the granting of the Freedom of the Rural City of Wodonga to RAEME Trg Centre 21 October 1978RAEME Corps has a long association with the city of Wodonga through its involvement in training and logistics at the army base at Bandiana.An award featuring a small model of the cannon "Zamzama" (Captor of Forts) mounted on a polished wooden base. The award includes a plaque outlining the significance of "Zamzama" on the top and another plaque explaining the significance on this award on the front of the base.Explanation of "Zamzama" beside cannon: "ZAMZAMA (CAPTOR OF FORTS)/ The original 14' 4 1/2" long, with 9 1/2" bore, was cast in brass in one/ piece by Muslim engineers in the year 1757 on the orders of the/ emperor AHMAD-SHAH-ABDALI. It was used in several battles and/ proved its value as a great weapon of destruction. It soon became to be/ regarded as a "Tallsman of Power" and continued as such until it was/ ruined in 1818 at Multan. Note - Air Survey Squadron’s photo was probably taken in July 1982 as they appear in winter dress. Air Survey Squadron was responsible for aerotriangulation, photogrammetric feature extraction and the AUTOMAP 1 system. Typical tasks were flight planning the acquisition of aerial photography, pugging, mensuration and block adjustments, photogrammetric extraction of topographic features from aerial photography, digital feature editing, map compilation, operating the scanner/plotter, operating the AUTOMAP 1 system and computer programming by civilians. Cartographic Squadron was responsible for the production of the following military products: Joint Operation Graphics, small-scale RAAF Air Charts, large-scale topographic line maps and orthophotomaps. Cartographic technician tasks were scribing, compiling, retouching, masking, type setting, type stickup, terrain embossing, correcting and proving quality control. Headquarters Squadron was responsible for the planning and coordination of map production and contracts. It also performed administrative and support functions such as personnel administration, pay, finance, transportation, records, map Library, kitchens, messes and facility maintenance. It was staffed by Army personnel from RASvy, RACT, AACC, RAAOC and RAEME corps. Other supporting staff at this time included the RAAF Liaison Officer, RAN Liaison Officer and several civilians employed in administration, the Q-Store and grounds maintenance. A component of the Army Svy Regt’s cartographic map production was carried out by the Detachment, a sub-unit located at Bonegilla next to the School of Military Survey. Lithographic Squadron was responsible for the reproduction of map materials and printing of military map products. The main tasks undertaken by photographic technicians were photographic enlargements, reductions and duplication of map reproduction material and processing of aerial photography. Printing technician tasks included platemaking, offset printing, map stock despatching and proofing.This is a set of six staff photographs of the Army Survey Regiment’s Officers, Warrant Officers and Sergeants, and its four Squadrons, at Fortuna, Bendigo, 1982. The black and white photographs were printed on photographic paper and are part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection. The photograph was scanned at 300 dpi. No personnel are identified. The Royal Corps of Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME; pronounced Raymee) is a corps of the Australian Army that has responsibility for the maintenance and recovery of all land electrical and mechanical equipment. RAEME has members from both the Australian Regular Army and The Army Reserve. Prior to being given the title of 'Royal', the Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (AEME) were raised on 1 December 1942. Some 64 years later, on 1 December 2006, the last independent RAEME Workshop was disbanded.
