The tram was built by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide in 1912 for the Melbourne Electric Supply Co (MESCo) for its Geelong operation that opened in 1912 and closed in 1956. The body was subsequently sold to Phil Shoppee, a farmer at Murradoc on the Bellarine Peninsula, purchased by the donor in 1991, who rebuilt the tram back to its MESCo configuration. The tram is fitted with a four-wheel truck from Brussels. To make the tram operable, air and electrical work was carried out by Bendigo Tramways. The tram was donated to the Museum in 2021, and the tram entered service on 6/2/2022. This tram is the only one known to exist of the seven (and four trailers) that opened the Geelong system in 1912. It is the only former MESCo Geelong tram that has been reconstructed to its as-built body configuration and made operational.A two motor four wheel tram car - Single Truck straight sill open combination with a wooden body.trams, geelong, tram 2, mesco

This tram was initially a straight sill car known as a Sebastopol type. It was No.23. It was one of three trams built specifically for Ballarat in 1913. In mid 1930s it was converted to be a scrubber. This meant the inside of the centre section was removed and a large water tank and cleaning equipment fitted. It was used to clean the tracks and also used to clean drains when necessary. This was done at night and there were complaints about the noise it made. When the trams ceased to run in Ballarat it was given to the Tramways Museum Society of Victoria, Bylands.Black and white photographtram 23, scrubber, sebastopol type, built 1913, large water tank, cleaning tracks, drains, tramways museum society of victoria, bylands, campbell duncan, photographer, built for ballarat tramways

Scrubber car 9A was renumbered as number 4. Shown as allocated to Hanna St depot on 9 June 1934 as scrubber 4, and also 30 June 1938. Photo published in the Bellcord No. 16, Oct. 2012. From the article with the photograph; The terminus was located at the intersection of High St, Burke, Kilby and Doncaster Roads. We are at the outer edges of Melbourne’s suburbia at the time, unlike the current tram terminus of today. Burke Road, north of Doncaster Road is clearly under construction in preparation for the new river crossing. The vacant block of land in the foreground will remain so for another ten years or so. In 1960 the new Dickens Supermarket was built on this site and the intersection became known locally as Dickens Corner. The narrow track on the left hand side of the photo is Doncaster Road. The tram at the terminus is a straight-sill single trucker of one of the G, K, Q or R classes. It is finished in the late MMTB chocolate and cream livery. A cable grip car body has been placed as a tram shelter at the terminus. The church was subsequently relocated to Francis Street Yarraville where it still stands today as a private residence.
