These photographs, taken by The Advocate, show Jack Freeland — a former Ardeer butcher who became one of only about 80 people worldwide to create artwork with the brush held between his teeth. A well‑known local figure, often recognised as “the man in the wheelchair” who lived near Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Arthur Street, Freeland was accepted as a student member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, joining fellow artists with disabilities in the international society. Brimbank's LGBTQIA+ History Exhibition mapped and celebrated the history of local LGBTQIA+ community, revealing the people, movements and creative forces that have shaped Brimbank's vibrant queer heritage. It brought together stories of activists such as Ali Hogg and Gordon Doak, alongside creative champions including Keigh bowery, Ana Kokkinos and Kween Kong, tracing networks of resistance, visibility and cultural change. The exhibition was brought together by the Australian Queer Archives. The Brimbank Council has a formal adopted action plan (2024–2028) that commits the municipality to improving health, safety, inclusion, empowerment, and organisational leadership for LGBTQIA+ residents. This action plan policy is built around the City of Brimbank's LGBTQIA+ Action Plan 2024–2028, that was adopted in November 2023. It was the council’s first formal LGBTQIA+ policy and is now the governing document for all inclusion, safety, and community‑support work. LGBTQIA+ is an inclusive acronym that represents diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer / questioning, intersex, asexual, and others.Brimbank LGBTQIA History Exhibitionlgbtqia+, ali hogg, gordon doak, leigh bowery, ana kokkinos, kween kong, city of brimbank

The two storey The Hunt Club Hotel was built in 1886, replacing a much earlier single storey hotel from the 1850's, that burnt down the same year. In 1982, the City of Sunshine purchased the historic Hunt Club Hotel and surrounding land from ICI. The building was then repurposed by the Brimbank City Council and opened in 1985 as a community arts precinct offering art classes, exhibitions, artist studios, community arts projects, a garden amphitheatre for performances and rooms for hire for community and business groups. The Hunt Club Community Arts Centre is located in one of the few surviving 19th‑century buildings in Deer Park and surrounding district.Metal sign painted green with white writing.Brimbank City Council Hunt Club Community Arts Centre Office Hours Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm 92494800 Emergency After Hours Ph 9249 400the hunt club and community arts centre, ballarat road, deer park

The Hunt Club is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Deer Park and a rare 19th‑century structure in Melbourne’s west. Its story weaves together hunting culture, early white settlement of the Deer park area, explosives manufacturing, and community arts. This video features the second celebration of the opening of The Hunt Club and Community Arts Centre on the 26th November 1988.A hotel was first located at this site in 1850's. Over the years the hotel has been called various names including the Kororoit Creek Hotel, the Barley Mow Hotel & Plough Hotel. This hotel was described as an old English style wooden building pub consisting of eleven rooms exclusive of a storeroom and kitchen. The current Hunt Club Hotel building was built in 1886 on the former site of the burnt down ruins of the original hotel. It is one of the few 19th Century buildings remaining in the district. The hotel was named by the members of the Melbourne Hunt Club who used the hotel as a base for their deer hunts after leasing land nearby of over 300 acres from Sir W. J. Clarke. The Hunt Club Hotel operated between 1886 and 1911. In 1911, the hotel became a private residence. In 1921, the Australian Explosives and Chemicals Co. Ltd (later ICI Australia) purchased the Hunt Club building. By the 1950s, the Hunt Club building was converted into a research and staff training centre. In 1982, the City of Sunshine purchased the Hunt Club building. In 1985, it officially opened as the Hunt Club Community and Arts Centre. In 1885 the Melbourne Hunt Club moved its operations from Caulfield to Deer Park. As part of this move the Hunt Club built The Hunt Club Hotel as a base for its members. The Hunt Club has been through many iterations since these early days and is currently operating as a community arts centre. This is an audio recording of a guest speaker at the annual Sunshine and District Historical Society's Pioneers Dinner, Mrs Ivy Morton, discussing her experience as a former manager of The Hunt Club Hostel.Historical Society Pioneers Dinner 27/11/1987 Toast to pioneers David Templeton Chairman Norman Parsons Speaker Mrs Ivy Morton one time manageress Hunt Club Hostel 1932 - 1943 Arrival Church (B Stanway) Visit to Williamstown Husband ill (Foot) So primitive 2 pounds per week Starting Red Cross 38ivy morton, melbourne hunt club, pioneers dinner, sunshine and district historical society, david templeton, ballarat road, deer park, ici, kororoit creek hotel, joseph harrison, opies, annie mcleod, reverend alfred stanway, geoffrey samble, dulcie beryl ross, deer park red cross, deer park mothers' club, richard richardson, old kororoit creek hotel, deer park hotel, james cunningham, john cunningham, barley mow hotel, bridget cunningham, alexander dixon thorne, the hunt club hotel

This crystal ware originally came from the City of Sunshine Mayoral Chambers, located within the former Municipal Offices on Alexandra Avenue, Sunshine. Following the 1995 council mergers that created the City of Brimbank, the new municipality constructed the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre on Hampshire Road. During the relocation process, the crystal ware was assessed as no longer required and transferred into storage at The Hunt Club Community Arts Centre. It was later deemed surplus and discarded by the Council. The Sunshine & District Historical Society recovered the crystal ware from a waste bin at the Hunt Club Community Centre during a clean‑out. The significance of this crystal ware lies in what it represents a rare surviving piece of City of Sunshine civic regalia, an object tied to mayoral authority, municipal ceremony, and the public identity of a pre‑amalgamation council. Its survival is unusual, and its rescue from disposal gives it added heritage value.Set of 8 Crystal Ware Glasses - Wine, Whiskey, Port & Cocktail examplesNilcity of sunshine, mayor
