Jim was one on the foundation members of the Emerald RSL. These badges were awarded to Rita for her membership and service during her involvement in the Women's Auxiliary. Rita was also issued a Widow of World War 1 Veteran Travel pass. It is estimated that the travel pass was issued after Jim Madigan's death in 1979 as he was a veteran of World War I. Madigan had bought the business from the original butcher, Robert Cooper. The butchers was situated near the corner of Main Road and Monbulk Road and had an abattoir at the back.
