Historical information

This key was the front door key of the Emerald Coffee Palace which was situated on Beaconsfield Road (now Kilvington Drive). Built in 1901. Demolished in 1961. The key was donated by Vera Madigan who was the daughter of T. J. Madigan who demolished the Palace in 1967 to re-develop the site. T. J. Madigan was Emerald's butcher from late 1920s through to the 1940s. The Coffee Palace had accommodation and also had the attraction of being able to serve alcohol.

Key. Metal. Leather label inscribed with the key's provenance details attached to key with leather plait. The key dates from 1900s whilst the leather label was added more recently.
