First croquet committee in Orbost started up in 1919. (ref : The Whos' Who of Orbost Settlers - Mary Gilbert). Often croquet lawns were in private gardens eg. at Connort (now Moogji)..This shield is part of the history of the Orbost Croquet Club. In the museum, there is also an old copy of the rules of Croquet, a mallet and a photo of the first committee.A wooden shield. A special luncheon was held for World War 1 widows as a lead up to "Legacy Week". Legatees dressed up as waiters to add a bit of humour to the day. Also Legatee Eddie Jowett led some singing. Due to its success it was held for a number of years. Seated with the widows is President David Millie who was president in 1995. These School Papers, numbers 431 to 440, were distributed to pupils on a monthly basis beginning in 1896, as extra reading material in addition to the Victorian Reader. The owner, Millie Crameri (nee Rae) was a pupil at Gapsted State School Number 2241. During the 1960s the form of The School Papers changed into 3 grades of readers:Meteor, Comet and Orbit.A complete example of a 20th century textbook used in a rural school with insights into course content and learning modes of that time.Of local significance because Millie Crameri was a well known local identity. There is a sticker inside the front cover with Millie's name and details inscribed, presumably in her own handwriting. The Todd family lived in this house in the early 1900s. The house was next door to the butcher's shop which was run by members of the Todd family at the time. Stella Todd is the small child on the right of the photograph, whose hand is being held by her older sister (who is possibly Millie Todd). Huntingdale Golf club was the site of many social events for Legatees and Widows clubs. This appears to be an annual major fundraising golf day. The photo shows L/- Ray Ward and L/- David Millie presenting prizes. It was in an album of photos from 1992 and 1993. The article in the Answer says that the association with the Huntingdale golf club began in 1993 and over the years over $255,000 has been raised for Legacy.
