Illuminated address received by James Ross Briggs Esq. on the occassion of his retirement as Town Clerk and Treasurer by the Mayor, Councillors and Citizens of the City of Caulfield. 2 page watercolour and ink address bound in maroon and gold tooled leather folder, The address, presented on cream colour card, is secured inside the folder by a piece of maroon colour rope ribbon and strip of leather running vertically down the centre. The address is hand lettered in red and black ink and watercolour decorations include James Ross Briggs name in a scroll surrounded by sprigs of yellow wattle and a blue, pink and yellow decorative border. Images were taken by a staff member of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Mill in Newtown, a MR. Norm Holroyd. The photos were taken between the 1960s-1970s. They were developed in his own private dark room and kept at his home for private viewing. The unused P.M. Diggers raffle book was found behind the mantlepiece when the donor was renovating 128 Evans Street, Port Melbourne. The Melbourne Cup Effort raffle was to be drawn on the 31st of October 1968. First prize was to the value of $300 while 4th prize was a mere $4.00.
