LU 600 the first of the Small Town Units, designed and built by the Country Fire Authority. (CFA) The late Wally Titheridge, Chief Mechancal Officer of the Country Fire Brigades Board, CFBB, and its successor the CFA, stated in an interview in the early 1990's that the vehicle was designed by himself, and built by a body builder in Preston. This was the first of many hundreds of the Small Town Units, on maily Austin, but also Bedford, Leyland, and BMC Chassis. The early series trucks had a 200 gallon (900 Litre) tank, which was proving usefull, but "more is always better" , so the next series had 400 gallon (1000 litre) tanks.

Malcolm Moore No. 1013 Four wheel Diesel Rail Tractor Gauge 2'0" Malcolm Moore rail tractor (Builder’s Number 1013) It was built for the Australian Army in 1943. It was sold to the Inkerman Sugar Mill in Queensland around 1948 for hauling cane and shunting at the works. This rail tractor was originally powered by a Ford side valve V8 petrol engine. It was purchased from the Inkerman Mill of Pioneer Sugar Mills in 1982. Keith Hancock was a senior teacher at Box Hill Technical College in Dunloe Ave, Box Hill c. 1976. Keith was a student at what was then Box Hill Technical College in 1949 - 1952. Then as apprentice in 1953 - 56 qualifying as a carpenter. He was a third generation builder generally working in the City of Nunawading. This sketch was published in Building : the magazine for the architect, builder, property owner and merchant, Vol. 33, No. 193 (12 Sept., 1923) but Walter Butler had imagined it in the design for the mission in 1916/17. In the article published in the Herald, Thursday 30 August 1917, page 12, it is mentioned the "the architect has designed a copper ship final for the main gable of the building and it, like the gymnasium, is awaiting the collection of more funds or the generosity of a special donor."The plans confirm that Walter Butler was the designer of the vane that he had already imagined in the early sketch of the Flinders Street building in 1916 and also help us determine when was the vane made.This article was published in 1923 and the first photograph of the weathervane was only published in the 1928 Annual Report. A collection of 5 manuals for a range of Clyde Diesel Locomotives. The collection includes instructions for the Clyde G8B, G16C, G26C, 1800 HP Model A and the Clyde Mailiner Model 2. On the cover of each manual, the owner has written the letter for the name of class which the relevant locomotive was ascribed in Victoria. The Clyde Engineering Company Limited was registered on 30 September 1898 in New South Wales. It was one of the iconic Australian engineering firms whose history spanned just over a century and was one of the few locomotive and rolling stock builders in the world that transitioned from steam to diesel to electric traction. The company was formed by Walter Maplesden Noakes who purchased the works of Hudson Brothers Limited in the Sydney suburb of Granville, which had been established by in 1882. The manuals refer to the following locomotives:- Clyde Model G8B which operated in Victoria as the new T class locomotive. It was introduced in 1955 and was the most numerous class of diesel locomotive used in Victoria. This model continued in operation until 1968, although many were modified for continued service. Clyde Model G16C, later superseded by the G26C operated in Victoria as the X class locomotive between 1966 and 1976. Clyde Model 1800HP Model A became the S class locomotives in Victoria. Additional numbers were purchased in preparation for the opening of the standard gauge line between Melbourne and Albury, They entered service between 1957 and 1961. Clyde Mainline Model 2 became the B class in Victoria. The B class were the first mainline diesel-electric locomotives in Victoria entering service in June 1952. They were initially used on the main passenger and freight services, before moving out to other areas. The house is a white weatherboard cottage with corrugated iron roof and belonged to Len Jarrold at the time, a builder who was closely associated with the building of Montsalvat with Justus Jorgenson. Kangaroo Ground pioneers James Johnston (died 1895) with his wife Elizabeth commenced building this stone house on his Pretty Hill property, Kangaroo Ground in 1842. It was one of the oldest homes in the district till 1938 when new owner Mr Percy Cope, a master builder demolished the old building and a new brick building was erected in its place. Pretty Hill is one of the highest spots in the district with splendid views of the surrounding country.This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book,"Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971).
