Bridge over the Plenty River at Briar Hill before widening and alterations. The Plenty River at Briar Hill represented the boundary between the Shire of Eltham and the Shire of Diamond Valley. The bridge was known as the Carter Street Bridge as prior to 1969 Para Road, Briar Hill became Carter Street, Greensborough across the river. Lou Riley ran the Ashril Cinema in Main Street Greensborough from 1949 to 1974. He leased the former Victory Theatre, formerly the Rechabite Hall and Masonic Lodge and purchased it in 1958. It was sold in 1974 and demolished. The Farmers Arms Hotel was built on the corner of Main and Hailes Street in 1864 by George Iredale to cater for the ever increasing number of wood carters and other hauliers carting their wares between Melbourne, timber mills and the gold fields.
