Ballarat School of Mines Council President, Bill Gribble, studied Art at Ballarat School of Mines Technical Art School. In 1956 he was working with Villiers Engineering, then Bendex Mintex in 1966. He retired from there in 1988 as Chairman and Managing Director. In 1989 Bill Gribble was appointed to the Ballarat School of Mines Council. In 1976, the Shire of Pakenham recognising that Cockatoo was the second largest township within the shire, acknowledged requests for the provision of recreation facilities. Council purchased four hectares of land strategically located in the Town Centre and in conjunction with the local community, embarked upon a programme of staged development of the site. The first stage saw the construction of the kindergarten building which was opened in 1977, followed by the bowling green, tennis courts, netball courts and public toilets. The Community Complex Building was the final development of the site.The Cockatoo Community Complex building, was the final stage of the development and was opened on the 20th November 1982. It was a replacement for the old Cockatoo Hall, which had not been renovated since 1936. The old Cockatoo Hall was lost in the Ash Wednesday fires on the 16th February 1983. The Samuel Wadham Wing, officially opened on 23 March 1963 by Lord Richard Casey (Minister for External Affairs), at a large ceremony and commemoration dinner. The Wing was the second residential building at International House, providing sixty-three additional student rooms, tutors' rooms, a library, a laundry, a gym, and the formal entrance. The new building was hoped by Warden Sam Dimmick to secure International House's position as an academic college in Melbourne, who also extended thanks for fundraising and furnishing initiatives by the Women's Auxiliaries.samuel wadham, events

Built in 1886, this Victorian classical building was once the site of Reid's New York Bakery. The verandah was added 10 years later. The building boast a grand facade, Edwardian balcony, hand-painted ceiling and grand entrance arch. It features hand painted murals, leadlight windows, and an outstanding timber staircase. The former coffee palace is part of the temperance movement of the 19th century and was one of the last in Victoria. 1997 was the school's centenary year. The first Mt Dandenong State School opened in a shed on the property of William Ferguson on the corner of Blythe and Old Coach Roads. Fifty nine acres of land was reserved for a park in1861, and the first gardener began setting out the gardens in 1870. The conservatory was built in 1897 and is the last building of its type in a public park.The conservatory was designed by Mr G. Minto, city surveyor at the time. The building is 72 feet long and 24 feet wide. The walls re twenty two feet high and are topped by a lantern roof, adding a further six feet. Junior Legacy Melbourne purchased 289-299 Swanston Street Melbourne (previously called Red Cross House) in 1956 from the Commonwealth Government with money gifted to Legacy in memory of David H Dureau. The donation was initially used to purchase a different building at 342 Swanston St, which was sold in 1954, and 289 Swanston St was purchased. The church in the image is the former St. Michaels Catholic Church that was on Sunbury Road in the small Bulla township. After holding religious services at the Daniel property 'Narbonne' at Oaklands Junction until 1876, the permanent church building opened 0n 19th November 1876. Services were held there until the land was sold in the 1980s and the building was demolished despite undergoing renovations in 1978. Members of the Catholic faith then worshipped at the Sunbury Catholic Church. Many of the male members of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society who worked or lived close to the CBD would regularly gather at the clubrooms during lunch time or after their working day. Others would come in on the weekends to catch up with friends and play cards. The men in this image were probably meeting at the former clubrooms located in Michael's Building on the SW corner of Lonsdale and Elizabeth Streets. The Ithacan Philanthropic Society occupied the top floor of that building until Ithaca Hose was built in the 1968. The clubrooms are no longer an after work or weekend meeting place for the men. However, open days during the week provide an opportunity for all members to drop in for a coffee and chat. The Working Men’s College was founded in 1881 by a prominent grazier and philanthropist, The Hon. Francis Ormond, who donated £5000 towards the establishment of the college. The Council of the Melbourne Trades Hall then matched Ormond's initial donation by rallying its members. On 4 June 1887, the college opened in its purpose-built building on the corners of Bowen Street and La Trobe Street in Melbourne, with a gala ceremony. It became the third official provider of higher education in the new Colony of Victoria (the Melbourne Athenaeum was founded in 1839 and the University of Melbourne in 1853). The college was the predecessor to the current-day Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University). Adjoining the college in the 1890s were the Supreme Court of Victoria (later the Melbourne Magistrates' Court) and the Melbourne Gaol - both which are now part of RMIT today. A list of Scholarship Governors and Life Governors is included. The former have donated 250 Pounds Sterling and upwards, the later have donated 20 Pounds and over but less than 250 Pounds Sterling.
