The Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society was established on 01 August 1892. This is the organisation's first minute book. Rev. Dr Delaney advocated for the formation of the Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society. Curtin and Scullin became members of this organisation, and it is where they learnt to debate. William White was one of the founders of the Hibernian Society. 09 August 1893 - Richard Sutton provided a piano for recital by Mr Bailey. Brown hard covered minute book with red spine. It is the first book of the Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society. The minutes are handwritten in ink. A white envelope with the words ' Sandhurst Hostel 1945 - 1959. ' The number 27 is at the top on the left hand corner and the number is written on the back also. The envelope contains one large photo of Sandhurst Hostel, three proofs and two negatives of the hostel. This is a two storey building with verandas and ornate pediments. At the top of the building are two pediments each with the sign ' Heywood's Sandhurst House ' on them. There are six people standing on the balcony and below one person and a bicycle parked at the front of the building. Gold Rushes Around Bendigo tells of some gold finds around Bendigo. Eaglehawk Police Station tells of the Building of the Log Lockups at Eaglehawk and White Hills and where the idea came from. Also the cost of building and source of logs. Bells In and Around Bendigo tell of a tram employee ringing a bell and shouting to all that the tram terminus at the Railway Station was discontinued. When this was sufficiently known the bell went to the Bridge Street Methodist Church. The BHS Newsletter mentions business men's names and connection with their trade. Mr Henry jones - Gold Buyer mentions where his office was and that you could buy gold and money could be exchanged as well. Photo shows the Palace Hotel, Bell Street, Torquay circa 1891.The Hotel was built in 1888 by William Follett and operated as the Torquay Coffee Palace until it was licenced in 1891 and then traded as the Palace Hotel. Significantly the hotel's first licensee was Anna Rosina Follet, one of a number of female licensees in Victoria at the turn of the century. The Black and white copy photo.

An image from the Herbert Richmond collection, gifted in 1982 to the Ballarat Library. The collection contains approximately 200 photographs of Ballarat and district in the 1940s, 50s and 60s, as well as photo albums, glass negatives and other memorabilia. Herb Richmond was a keen photographer, a foundation member and a life member of the Ballarat Camera Club, and a photographer with the Ballarat Courier during the 1940s. The Ballarat Camera Club named an annual award after him. Mr Richmond died in 1981 aged 79.
