This object relates to Herbert Swain Greening. He was born on 1/01/1891 in Ballarat, Victoria. Herbert Swain served in the AIF (3292) enlisting on 13/07/1915 in Ballarat, Victoria before being discharged from duties with the 5 Battalion as a Army Non-Commissioned Private on 15/02/1918, being determined medically unfit for service. Herbert Swain sustained a gunshot wound to his wrist during service. Herbert Swain Greening's next of kin is Mrs. M. Greening - Mother. Herbert Greening was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.Pocket New Testament with navy ribbon bookmark attached to top of spine, pages edged in gold, in canvas pouch with metal press stud. One of the earliest camps held for Junior Legatees, showing tents, charabancs and fashions of the day. Legatee Stan Savige had a property in the Balnarring area and some camps were held on his property. Names noted on the back of the photos include: Pat Hanna, Aaron Beattie, Stan Savige, Sandy Lowe, Bill Pearce, Lyn Rule, Donovan Joynt, Carl Carleton, George Collins, Bill Pearce, Rupert Hely, Norman Stafford. Some of these were founding legatees. Melbourne Legacy provided camps for junior legatees - the children of deceased servicemen. It started in the early years of Legacy with outings to the property of Legacy founder, Legatee Stan Savige, who had a place in Balnarring. Permanent camp buildings were built in the 1930s. We've had 4 days ON Dartmoor, not IN Dartmoor. In view of our name, we keep a low profile so as not to be invited to stay!! Most of the Moor is a very beautiful place, especially around Widecombe-in-the-Moor! We're keeping well and should see you all in the middle of August. Some appear to be trips to visit other Legatees living overseas and social occasions held in different places. Block of 50 2d Newspaper package Tickets. Two part printed ticket, using red ink on 60 gsm cream paper with the top half part having a part gummed back, stapled with a single staple at the top onto a cardboard sheet. The ticket butt has the form number "TYE 2-8". The top portion of the ticket was to be affixed to the newspaper package to be carried. It has the name of the organisation (SECV), "Newspaper Package Ticket 2d", conditions of carriage and ticket number. The lower portion was retained by the sender, was to be initialled by the conductor, "Newspaper Package Ticket 2d", conditions of use, ticket number and a space where to be initialled by the conductor. Each ticket has been stamped "CANCELLED" First two bottom half tickets missing. Heavy silverfish damage in places. First ticket (450) and lower portion of tickets 451 and 452 missing. Notes the colour of the ribbon, the scissors and the Cr Pryor drove the tram over the extension. Features SEC No. 32 with flags and the SEC Logo over the headlight.
