Donald Victor BLACK, gardener, served and died as a result of WW11 service, an oak tree in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens is dedicated to him, 19th March 1944. Donald V. Black was highly regarded as a gardener in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens before he saw action in the Middle East and New Guinea during World War 2. This is the twenty fourth catalogue of trees and it contains fruit trees, nut trees, berries and some ornamental trees. Carl Nobelius wrote in his General Remarks that he had one million trees to sell, clean, healthy and pest free. The nurseries were 250 acres in extent and contained two and a half million trees in various stages. His nurseries were at Emerald, Railway Siding and his office half a mile from Emerald Railway Station. On pages 156- 159, Walker records details of an incident between William Oaks and himself when they were in the Boot Shop of Mr George Chatfield and Oaks accused Walker of stealing his fence.Oaks called him a liar, a rogue,a thief and a coward. Originally located on large oak reading table in the Rowden White Library until the end of 2003. Replaced by brass versions made by Thomas Mintsenikos on 26th May 2004.In 1938 Dr Alfred E. On the pending sale of Holy Trinity church, this baptismal font was removed from the church for safe keeping by the Society and placed in storage at McClusy's garage. When McClusky moved out in 1997, the font was again removed and placed in sections in the Spring Street foyer of the Port Melbourne Town Hall.
