Nicholas purchased one of Holloway's two-acre lots and established a market garden. Frank T Le Page worked on his father's market garden from age 14, then worked as a coachman and met Tommy Bent whilst employed at Brighton Grammar School. He bought land adjacent to his father's , built Daphne Cottage in 1876 and later established the Cheltenham Cream and Butter Factory. Frank T. Le Page was member of many community groups and was a Moorabbin Shire Councillor for 25 years serving a term as President. 'The Le Pages became one of the best known Moorabbin market gardening families, with a tradition of service to communal and civic affairs that is unmatched.' This trophy is one of several awarded in the 1930s by the Inter Church Indoor Sports Association in Warrnambool. It is a grand aggregate cup and it has been won jointly by the Congregational Men’s Institute (C.M.I.) and the Church of England Men’s Society (C.E.M.S.). Both of these men’s groups were prominent in the 1930s. A Congregational Church was opened in Liebig Street, Warrnambool in 1864 and transferred to Henna Street in 1940. This Henna Street church was sold to the Salvation Army in 1979 when the Congregational Church and the Methodist Church merged to form the Uniting Church. The Anglican Church in Warrnambool, called Christ Church, was established in Henna Street in the 1850s under the direction of the first minister, Archdeacon Beamish. The present church was constructed over the ensuing decades with the square tower added in 1882. This trophy is of interest as it comes from the 1930s and is one of the trophies given by the now-defunct Inter Church Indoor Sports Association of Warrnambool. It also has connections to both the Congregational Church and the Anglican Church in Warrnambool. This is an electro plated nickel silver cup with two side handles and an ornate stem attached to a silver base. The cup is mounted on a circular Bakelite stand. Clifton Banks is the name given to a bank on the Hopkins River Estuary, about one kilometre upstream from Proudfoots Boathouse. It is at the foot of the property, Clifton which dates from the 1850s. There are several works of art and photographs depicting Clifton Banks which date from the 19th and early 20th centuries. This oil painting is believed to be the work of Emma McGeorge, the wife of Canon Samuel McGeorge, the Vicar of Christ Church, Warrnambool form 1899 to 1905. It is surmised that Emma McGeorge was encouraged by the artist Mary Norman to take up painting as a pastime or to continue with her art interests. Emma McGeorge may have been a pupil of Samuel Pearce Fuller and Mary Norman. She was successful as an exhibitor and entrant in art exhibitions in Warrnambool in the early 1900s. She died in Warrnambool in 1933. This is a highly significant art work as it has artistic merit and is one of the depictions of Clifton Banks on the Hopkins River and so has historical value. It is an example of the high standard of art work that was being produced, especially by women, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Warrnambool. It was bought at an auction sale in Camperdown by Les O’Callaghan in 1997. This is an oil painting, probably by Emma McGeorge, on art board of Clifton Banks on the Hopkins River. It has a gilt wooden frame with multi-tiered highly-ornamented outer frames in a gold colouring. The lower frame is discoloured (perhaps by smoke from a fire place) and there is a small piece of wood missing on the lower frame. All the gilding is slightly discoloured. The back has been sealed with pasted paper and there are old tacks and old wire for hanging the picture. There is a label on the back from W. This bottle was used in the pharmacy of the Warrnambool chemist Francis Bloore. It contained a mixture made up for Archdeacon Thomas Bennett who was the Anglican Vicar of Christ Church, Warrnambool from 1912 to 1915. As Captain Bennett he was the chaplain of the 22nd Battalion in World War One from 1915 to 1917. He became Archdeacon of Warrnambool in 1917 and held this position until 1937. He spent much time on his return assisting returned World War One soldiers and their kin in the Warrnambool area. He was the first President of the Warrnambool Returned Soldiers League. Francis Bloore, born in Ballarat in 1874, came to Warrnambool about 1912. In 1914 he leased a newly-built shop at the corner of Liebig Street and Raglan Parade and continued on the business until the late 1930s. This bottle is of great interest as it is one of the few items we have in our collection associated with the pharmacy business of Francis Bloore. The bottle is also associated with an important Warrnambool Anglican Church identity, Archdeacon Bennett. This is a glass bottle with a rectangular-shaped body with rounded edges, a circular-shaped neck and a circular moulded top with an opening. It has a cork stopper. The top of the bottle is chipped. The label on the front of the bottle is partly torn away and very stained with most of the handwriting and some of the printing indecipherable. This album contains photographs of many local and beach scenes such as view over Warrnambool, Botanic Gardens, Hopkins River and Bridge, Warrnambool railway station, Proudfoots, Thunder Point, Christ Church and the War Memorial. There are a couple of photographs of groups of people picnicking on the main beach. The newspaper cutting showing firemen dousing the last of the flames of the fire has onlookers including four children in the foreground. The Ozone Coffee Palace was built in 1890-1891 and burnt down February23, 1929. It was one of the largest fires in Warrnambool It was designed by Mr J McLeod. It was grand in design and decoration. The term Coffee Palace was used to describe temperance hotels which were built during the 1880’s -1890’s. They typically were multi-purpose and had a large number of rooms for ballrooms and leisure activities. Coffee palaces were aimed at families in coastal areas and inner city locations. Examples of some are The Windsor Hotel Melbourne, Ozone, Queenscliff and Kilbreda Convent in Mentone. This album has social and historical significance as it shows a collection of local scenes which is a record of familiar scenes such as the gardens, Hopkins River and beach scenes. The groups of people are unknown but the images provide a snapshot of customs and costumes of the early 1920’s.Khaki coloured soft card tied with a dark green cord which has broken and has been replaced with yellow string. The Order of the British Empire was formed in 1917 to reward service to the British Empire in the United Kingdom and abroad. Originally having only a civil division, a military division was added in 1918 to acknowledge distinguished military service of a non-combative nature. The Order has five classes of appointment in each division and a medal of the Order. In descending order, the classes are: Grand Cross (GB); Knights and Dames Commander (KCB and DCB); Commanders (CBE); Officers (OBE); Members (MBE), and Medal (BEM). Mrs Joyce Hayward along with her husband Cyril, had a 30 year association with the Warrnambool Theatre Company. They acted, directed and produced a number of works from the 1950’s through to the 1980’s. Mrs Hayward taught drama and speech at Warrnambool High School and St Ann’s College. They both worked towards reviving the Warrnambool Arts Council.. They were involved in Christ Church choir, readings for the blind, Probus and Penguin club. They retired to Bribie Island in 1985. Joyce Hayward died aged 97 in 2007. Joyce Hayward played a significant role in the development of the performing arts in Warrnambool. The British Empire medal is an award of some importance and recognizes the contribution Mrs Hayward made to the Warrnambool Community. At 5pm on 2 May 1975 at Christ Church, Hawthorn, the wedding took place between Kathryn Gwynn Marx of Mason Street, Hawthorn, and William Peter Reeve of Mountain Grove, Kew. The bride's dress was purchased from the 'House of Franke, Stuart', 612 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, a very popular place in the 1970s for brides. Kathryn was educated at Ruyton Girls' School with Margaret Franke so it was a nice connection. Margaret's family business had been in operation since 1926. I loved my wedding dress. It was soft and comfortable to wear and kept me warm on the May evening. It was elegant and I knew I would never get the chance to wear something with a long train again. Walking down the staircase at the Windsor Hotel in Melbourne felt very grand; a memory I still hold today. It is a representative example of wedding dresses sold in the 1970s. The wedding dress is made of fine soft white jersey with guipure lace around the neckline, wrists and bodice. The long train has three small discreet loops along the hemline which can be slipped onto a finger for a draped effect giving ease of movement for dancing etc. A satin trimmed veil covered the length of the train and was secured on the head with a satin coronet. White leather shoes were worn. The bouquet Phalaenopsis orchids. William Bateman Snr was born to parents Daniel Bateman and Patience Wilkinson in Bradford, Yorkshire, England in approx. 1794. He married Sarah Smith on 20th November 1815 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. They had four children – Patience (Born abt 1817), Daniel (born abt 1819) William (born abt 1831) & James (born abt 1837)all born in England. William Snr and Sarah Bateman and two sons – William and James - arrived in Australia in approx 1853. They brought with them considerable capital/stock and bought into a business in Warrnambool in William Jnr’s name. Bateman & Co rapidly became the largst mercantile business in the area and did rather extensive business with the Banks of Victoria and Australiasia. It is thought that William Snr assisted in the business to some extent, expecially financially. His other son Daniel (who remained in England) is also thought to have had a financial interest in the business as a dormant partner. The business was so prominent, Bateman & Co issued round copper tokens as a Trade Token - value one penny. These were inscribed with the Business name and were limited in their use to the business. In Sept 1856 the business was transferred to a Mr. Thos W. Sellars (nephew of William Bateman Jnr) and shortly afterwards the store closed with an order for the sequestration of the insolvents estate, but was not made absolute until December 1856 when the Insolvency court ruled for the “compulsory sequestration” of the business due to fraudulent activities within the business. But in the meantime in early November fire completely destroyed the business which left only the insurance payouts. Both William Bateman Snr and William Bateman Jnr are listed on the Pioneers’ Honour Board in the foyer of the Warrnambool Library. It is reported William Bateman Jnr was a trustee of Christ Church, was a City Councillor, and was involved in many other community organisations. He also subscribed towards the cost of building a permanent Church which was opened in 1856. William Bateman Snr died in Warrnambool on 30/03/1868 and his wife Sarah died in August 1868. William Bateman Jnr presented to Christ Church, stained glass windows in memory of his parents William & Sarah Bateman. William Bateman Jnr died in June 1913. Four stained glass windows, three lancet and one circular. The theme of the lancet windows depicts the three occasions when the apostles Peter, James and John were Jesus' sole attendants: The raising of Jairus' daughter. On the Mount of Transfiguration. In the Garden of Gethsemane. The circular window in the gable of the wall represents "The Enthroned Christ".

Elizabeth Edith Mack was born to parents William & Elizabeth (nee Wilmont) Hatton, in approx. 1873 in Moyston, Victoria. She married Frederick David Mack (a wool and skin buyer) in approx. 1903. Frederick Mack was born in 1968 in Warrnambool to parents Joseph and Louisa Mary (nee Despard) Mack. Joseph served as Shire Secretary. The Mack family (including Elizabeth and Frederick) occupied the same sandstone house in the town for more than a century. They had at least 5 children. Elizabeth Edith Mack died in Warrnambool in 1931 aged 58 years. The Circular Memorial Window was erected in her memory by her children. Elizabeth and Frederick's son, Ronald, became The Honorable Sir Ronald (William) Mack, M.L.C. President of the Legislative Council of Victoria. He was knighted in 1967 (the first Warrnambool -Born person to be so honoured) while Minister for Health and regarded the care of the Mentally Ill of prime importance but also the care of the aged. He was given a state funeral after his death in 1968, the service being conducted at Christ Church.The Mack family was a prominent pioneer family in Warrnambool. Her son Ronald William Mack was the first Warrnambool-born person to be knighted.Circular stained glass window above five lancet windows in the west wall of the second nave, depicts 'Christ Ascending in Glory'. Booklet printed with an address area on rear. Produced by Nulcolorvue Productions, Mentone, Victoria. The rear has a slit on the rear cover that allowed the folder to be secured. Words on the building on the south west corner of Sturt Street are visible. "NATIONAL MUTUAL BUILDING". This building was used by Mark's Jewellers, and then Allan Bros. Jewellers. The next building has the writing "ARGUS" and Printers, Bookbinders, Stationers, on it. This was known as Berry Anderson's. I suspect that these are photographs before the celebrations for the coronation. A newspaper clipping from a book compiled about the Legacy children's residence called Stanhope. The newspaper clipping from 3 January 1964, shows a photo of the wedding of Jennifer Roberts and Ian Chapman. The article mentions they were married at Christ Church, South Yarra. Jennifer was a resident of Stanhope. Stanhope was supervised by Matron Dorothy (Dorrie) Vines from the time it opened in 1946 until she retired in December 1966. It is likely she compiled this notebook as she is referred to as 'self' in one photo. Individual pages of photos or newspaper clippings have been added separately. Items 01817 to 01836. Blamey House (purchased 1947) , Stanhope (purchased 1945) and Harelands (purchased 1950) were residences run by Melbourne Legacy to take care of children whose fathers were servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself, or they needed to stay in Melbourne for further education. Harelands accommodated boys and girls under the age of 14, Blamey House looked after boys over 14, and Stanhope looked after girls over 14. The children were cared for until they were old enough to become independent. A record of a Stanhope girl getting married and the matron keeping a clipping from the newspaper.
