When the Ballarat Tramways closed in 1971, it was purchased by the Lismore Lions Club and displayed in a recreational reserve until purchased by the Museum in 1976 and converted into a museum display and souvenir centre located at the depot until the new Museum building was opened in 2022. When Ballarat trams stopped in 1971, Tram 41 went to Horsham City Council for the Wimmera River Improvement League. ...Photograph Ballarat Tram 41 ...The tram in the centre is Number 41. Photo taken in the Depot Shed in July 1971 prior to the closure of the tramway. It was built in 1914 by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide. Originally in Geelong and came to Ballarat when their trams stopped running in 1956. When Ballarat trams stopped in 1971, Tram 41 went to Horsham City Council for the Wimmera River Improvement League. The tram was converted inside and became a smokers' lounge within Olde Horsham Restaurant. It ran as Tram 75. In 1927 it was sold to the Melbourne Electric Supply Co. Ltd and ran as Geelong Tram 29.The State Electricity Commission tranferred the tram to Ballarat in 1936 and it became Tram 14. The tram is the property of the Ballarat City Council and on loan to the Museum. This photograph was taken in December 1971. It shows the tram being shunted from road "1" to road "3" by hand and by J Witlers' landrover.
