In 1892 Carl moved his family and eight surviving children Hilda, Oscar, Percy, Archie, Ruby, Rupert, Clifford, and Stella to a house which he had built at Emerald. Their sons Oscar and Archie were keen cricketers and the local paper recorded a match between their Narre Warren team and a team from Clyde. Both were gifted bowlers.This record holds historic significance as it captures the history of agriculture in Emerald's history. It also captures the house of Archie Nobelius who was the son of Carl and Emily Nobelius. This image is socially significant because it depicts a local garden supplies business. A classified listing in the Upper Beaconsfield Village Bell paper from May 1981 indicates that the business has been in operation from at least the early 1980s, and continues to operate in the present day. As the business has existed for more than 40 years, it would have deep roots within the Emerald and Dewhurst communities. Carl and Emily Nobelius moved to a sixteen-roomed Victorian mansion called Carramar where over the years they entertained important guests including Dame Nellie Melba and Governor of Victoria, Sir Reginald Talbot. Carramar retains several fruit and ornamental trees planted by Nobelius and much of its original architectural features.This record holds historic significance as it captures the history of agriculture within Emerald and reflects the significance agriculture had on the development and urbanization of Emerald. Work diaries kept by Ron Nicholls, assistant propagator at Nobelius Nursery from 1938 to 1940, when he left to join the RAAF. The diaries detail specific work tasks undertaken at the nursery. The diaries, two photographs and a prayer book were donated by his widow, Mrs Ron Nicholls. Letters written by his mother to Ron Nicholls during his time in the air force are believed to have been donated to the RAAF Museum (to be checked). The diaries are important as a record of work carried out in the area that is now Nobelius Heritage Park. Ron Nicholls moved from Queensland to Emerald with his family in 1925. The teapot was presented to Carl Oscar Nobelius and Florence Kathleen Prescott by the employees of the Gembrook Nurseries on the occasion of their marriage on April 7, 1904. Oscar was the oldest son of Carl Axel Nobelius. The botanical trim on the pot may be a reference to the nursery.The Gembrook Nurseries sold trees throughout Australia and overseas and were a significant local employer for decades commencing in 1892.Ornate silver teapot on stand with burner. The teapot has a hinged lid with a 'strawberry' shaped handle. It has two protrusions on each side to fit onto the twig-work stand. He built a log cabin in Emerald which he would use on weekends.Dr Bottomley was a member of two syndicates who purchased land from Carl Axel Nobelius nursery property. Emerald Pty Ltd purchased 600 acres and with it developed the Emerald Country Club, including a golf course and properties. The Nobelius Station Estate purchased 300 acres, which includes sites of the current Nobelius Heritage Park and Emerald Lake Park.
