The sash was awarded to G. Lunardelli as the winner of the Senior 20 mile Road Championship for GWCC. Lunardelli came out from Trieste, Italy after World War 11 and worked for the Geelong Water Board. Lunardelli subsequently ceased full time cycling in order to make a living.This award indicates the important influence that immigrants had on the popularity and depth of cycling at the time in the Geelong region. The Geelong Cycling Club was formed in Geelong in 1908 and subsequently replaced in 1911 by the Geelong West Cycling Club as reflected in the minutes. This banner is one of the many awarded in the Western District of Victoria for competitive cycling races from 1932 onwards. The first championships were in 1932, won that year by Bob Scott of Cobden. Notably Russell Mockridge was one of the first to represent the Geelong West Cycling Club and compete in the Western District championships.The Western District Road Racing Championships was significant in being a regional bike racing competition which the Geelong West Cycling Club took part in from 1932 onwards. This cup was presented by the Geelong West Amateur Cycling Club to the cyclist with the fastest time in 1934. It was donated by the Radford family.Cup won by Eric Radford in a race promoted by the Geelong West Amateur Cycling Club in 1934. The professional Geelong West Cycling Club included an amateur chapter in the middle 1930s at a time when amateurism was flourishing.
