Photocopy of a three page article relating to the light railway that ran from Parramatta River Sydney to Mellor's Meadowbank factory, that appeared in 'Light Railways' magazine No. 143 of Oct. 1998, pages 3 to 5. Included in article is a stylised illustration of the factory and its location, photographs of two surviving Meadowbank Manufacturing Builders plates from NSWGT tramcars (J class and P 1667). The tram was built by Meadowbank Manufacturing Co. Sydney in 1915 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust as their No. 66. Sold to the Melbourne Electric Supply Co (MESCo) Geelong in 1927 and ran as their No. 25. After two spectacular derailments in Aphrasia St during 1950 and 1951, at almost the same location, the tram was renumbered to No. 28 to reassure the public it was safe! MESCo was taken over by the SECV in 1930. It was little used between 1951 and 1956 when the system was abandoned and the body sold to a framer in Little River. In 1983 the donor purchased the body and subsequently undertook the reconstruction to its former SECV format and livery of green and cream. It has been fitted temporarily for display purposes, with an unmotored Brill 21E truck. One of a number of this type of tram still in working order in Australian tramway museums. Has no motors. Interior one of the few given a paint finish by SEC, others are varnished. Tram 19 was built in 1915 by Meadowbank Manufacturing Sydney. It was a single truck drop end closed combination. Ballarat Tram 19 was built in 1916 by Meadowbank Manufacturing Co in Sydney for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It came to Ballarat in 1931 and then transferred to Bendigo in 1960. It was renumbered and became second car No 7. Bendigo had a No 19 car that was built in 1916 by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide. It was originally built for Hawthorn Tramways Trust. It was transferred to Bendigo in 1932 and in 1935 renumbered 12 in the fleet. Photograph shows a tram No 19 near Lake Weeroona in Bendigo. This tram was built by Meadowbank Manufacturing Company of Sydney in 1915. First used by Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust, then went to Geelong. It came to Ballarat in 1936. When the trams stopped running in Ballarat it went to Dalyesford and District Historical Society. In 1977 it was acquired by the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society (Ballarat Tramway Museum from 1995). Tram 13 was built by Meadowbank Manufacturing Company, Sydney in 1915 for Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust, Tram 68. In 1928 it became Tram 30 of the Geelong Fleet. Transferred to Ballarat in 1938 and numbered 13. When the trams stopped in 1971 it was donated to the Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Society. Returned to Ballarat in 1983 and re-entered service in 1988. The photograph shows the tram turning from Wendouree Parade into Macarthur Street and the section known as View Point in 1971. Tram 17 was built in 1915 by Meadowbank Manufacturing Co. Sydney for Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It came to Ballarat in 1931. When Ballarat trams stopped running in 1971 it went to the Tramway Museum Society of Victoria. The photograph shows the tram travelling along Wendouree Parade, heading towards the Gardens. It is near near St Aidan"s Drive. In the background is the church on the corner of Forest Street, near the Ballarat Grammar School boat shed and a view across the lake. Photograph shows three trams in the SEC Depot shed. Numbers on two trams are identifiable but the third is not. The tram in the centre is Number 41. This was built in 1914 by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide. Originally in Geelong and came to Ballarat when their trams stopped running in 1956. When Ballarat trams stopped in 1971, Tram 41 went to Horsham City Council for the Wimmera River Improvement League. The tram converted and became a smokers' lounge within Olde Horsham Restaurant. Still operating today. Tram 11 is on the righthand side. It was built in 1915 by Meadowbank Manufacturing Company Sydney. It was first part of the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust fleet. It came to Ballarat in 1936 after being in Geelong. In 1971 the Ballarat trams stopped running and No.11 tram went to Daylesford and District Historical Museum. The Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society acquired the tram in 1977. Tram 17 was built in 1915 by Meadowbank Manufacturing Sydney for Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It came to Ballarat in 1931 as part of the fleet of the State Electricity Commission. The photograph shows the tram at the hospital corner as it is entering Drummond Street. A green tram shelter is shown on the medium strip. When the trams ceased running in 1971, it was obtained by the Tramway Museum Society of Victoria.
