The photograph shows two trams in Drummond Street at the Urquhart Street Loop. Information on the back shows the photo was taken about 8.15 in the morning. The trams travel down Grey Street Sebastopol, up Victoria Street and then Lydiard Street North. Tram 26 was built in 1916 by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide for Hawthorn Tramways Trust and was known as Tram No.6. It was renumbered by Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramway Board in 1920 . It became No.111. In 1930 it was sold to the Electric Supply Company of Victoria and numbered 26. In 1934 it passed to the SEC.It is a standard Californian combination - drop ends. The tram is still in the Ballarat Tramway fleet and runs during the Summer. Tram 35 was built in 1916 by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide. It was part of the Hawthorn Tramways Trust until 1947 when it came to Ballarat. When the trams stopped running in Ballarat in 1971, it went to Ballarat College - known as Ballarat and Clarendon College from 1974. The College received the body only. The trucks were sent to Perth Museum. The body returned to the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society in 1978 and dismantled due to the poor condition it was in. Urquhart Street Primary School was opened on 09 December 1878 by the Minister of Public Instruction, Major William Collard Smith. The first school she taught at was Wedderburn Primary School Grades 1 and 2 (46 students). She also taught at wendouree West , Urquhart Street and Pleasant Street Primary Schools. This blazer was worn by Helen Veitch in 1948, while a student at the Ballarat Teachers' College in Dana Street. She lived in Ascot Street South and attended the Urquhart Street Primary School. The first class she taught was grades 1&2 at Wedderburn Primary School with 46 students. She also taught at Wendouree West, Wendouree, Urquhart Street and Pleasant Street Primary Schools. She married in 1955 and died in 1979.This royal blue woollen, unlined blazer is bound on all the edges with braid including the tops of the three pockets and 8.5cm from the sleeve edge. The embroidered patch breast pocket has the emblem of the Ballarat Teachers College. It has three buttons at the front. Most of the seams are bound, though some are turned back and stitched down. Photograph looks north along High Street from corner of Urquhart Street with a Northcote line cable tram travelling northward. The large cannon is one of two located at southern end of High Street in June 1913 by the Northcote South Ratepayer’s Association. The cannons were originally built in England in 1884/8 5 and installed in Melbourne's South Channel Fort off Sorrento to defend against possible Russian invasion. Cornwell Reserve is now known as High Street Linear Reserve. This tram was built in 1913 by Duncan and Fraser in 1913 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It began service as their Number 35. It was classified "C" by the Melbourne Tramways Board. In 1951 it was sold to the State Electricity Commission of Victoria and renumbered 40. This tram was the last Ballarat tram to operate by the SEC to officially carry passengers in Ballarat on 19 September 1971. Tram 40 had a Maximum Traction truck bogie (eight wheels), drop end and centre combination. The photograph shows the tram on Drummond Street at the Urquhart Street loop.
