Warrnambool RSL Sub Branch
Jumper, Elegant Knitting Co, 1993
This jumper is part of a Disruptive Pattern Combat Uniform issued by the Australian Airforce to Bernard Farley during service. This uniform type was used in base and field activities and was replaced in 2014 by the General Purpose Uniform as the uniform worn during general base duties and in non-warlike environments. This woolen jumper was presumably a winter addition to the DPCU.This item has social significance, as an item of uniform worn by Warrnambool RSL community member and Secretary (2019), Bernard Farley during service with the Australian Airforce. The item is a representative example of previously standard issue Airforce uniform and is in excellent condition. As a set, the uniform has aesthetic significance in it’s design, incorporating the Disruptive Pattern style of camouflage which has its roots in the 1980s and continues to be adapted into uniform design by the Defence Force.Khaki ribbed knitted jumper with stitched Disruptive Pattern cotton elbow patches, rectangular in shape running the length of the forearm. Similar rectangular shaped patches on the left and right shoulder, bearing two epaulettes, stiched at one end and fastened with velcro and the other. The left upper arm carries a rectangular Disruptive Pattern patch with a seam down the centre, creating two long narrow pockets. Arm cuffs have external seam for approximately 100 mm from the end, indicating that the jumper may have been worn with cuffs folded over. This is an album used as a scrapbook to insert memorabilia of the 1927 opening of Parliament House in Canberra. The compiler of the scrapbook is unknown. The scrapbook includes small sepia-coloured photographs, a stamp, copies of photographs of the Duke and Duchess of York and a printed program of the 1927 Dedication of the Houses of Parliament. Embarking in November 1940 on the transport Strathmore at Port Melbourne, the 2/23rd arrived in Egypt in mid-December. From Egypt they were deployed to Tobruk. The battalion helped defend Tobruk for eight months, manning a series of concrete pillboxes located in a semicircle around the town, called the Red Line. In October the majority of the 9th Division, except the 2/13th Infantry Battalion, was evacuated by sea. The 2/23rd left on 18 October and sailed to Alexandria. View from Top of Tail Tower Pillar - Concrete Dam. This was taken from the top of the Tower described in the preceding photograph looking towards New South Wales. (WHS 00722) First is the part of the spillway being built inside the Coffer Dam, then over the Coffer Dam the submerged portion of the Spillway and outlet sections for the river diversion, beyond that the situation for the hydro-electric turbo passages bounded by the North Wing Wall. The gap may be seen in wing wall for the passage of the belt conveyor and half of the concrete mixer house behind. This gives a general view of the New South Wales Township. The Quarry is on the side of the hill showing up beyond the Township. New South Wales, August 1927.hume reservoir australia, river murray waters scheme, hume reservoir construction -
