The Fred Moore trophy is held on Australia Day long weekend. This trophy commemorates the losers, ie the highest score of the day over 12 holes. It began in 1967, and continues. Believed to be donated by Bill Cumming to honour the effort of the players. The event is a non handicap game, so anyone can play, not necessarily golfers. It is still quite a coveted prize. The official records of the Lioness Club of Kew, of which this object is a part, are held in trust by the Kew Historical Society.The Lioness Club of Kew was the first Lioness Club in the Melbourne area. As such its records are of Historic and Social Significance as a record of post-war community organisations run by women. As the records were donated to the Kew Historical Society as a place of deposit, they are well provenanced. They comprise albums, objects, and a history of the Club so provide a complete picture of the Club's operation.Brass Bell, with attached wooden gavel. Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Hunter joined 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles from 20 National Service Battalion November 1956. He transferred to Papua New Guinea Volunteer Rifles in 1967, returning to VMR in 1977. He commanded A Squadron 8/13 VMR 1978-1980. He was Staff Officer Grade 1 Headquarters 3 Division 1983-1985. Following retirement he was active in the regimental museum and wrote the book "My Corps Cavalry: a history of the 13th Australian Light Horse AIF". Ben RICHARDSON (1951- ) Born Hobart, Tasmania In 1972 Ben Richadson was awarded a B.Commerce degree in 1972 at the University of Tasmania. From 1978-81 he studied ceramics at the School of Art in Hobart and completed a Master of Art, Design and Environment degree in 2004. Starting out with raku, he was converted to working with local materials and firing with wood by Col Levy, Les Blakebrough and Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, who conducted a woodfiring workshop he attended in 1980. In 1982, he set up the Ridgeline Pottery at Sandford, where he still lives and works, teaching two days a week at TAFE. He was a part-time lecturer in ceramics at the School of Art from 1985-95, and a researcher in the development of Southern Ice porcelain from 1995-97. In 2004, he completed a Master of Art, Design and Environment degree and, in the same year, participated in an international woodfiring workshop and conference in the United States. A golden running figure sits atop a pedestal that rests on a bell located above two pedestals behind a golden laurel wreath. Two eagles, with wings outstretched as if just landing, are either side of the wreath and the inscription 'Rotary Club of Glenferrie - River Run - Female winner - Donated by Bob Bruner' is written on the plinth below them. Ewan ROSS Ewen Ross grew in the Wimmera and aims to manifest the changing nature of this landscape in his work. This region is affectionately known as the land of the big sky and it is from this viewpoint looking down and across, which inspires his sense of image making. Occasionally he refers to stories that occurred from times past but generally these images reflect the current state of this land. From 1976 to 1978 Ewan Ross undertook a Diploma of Art (Painting) at Ballarat College of Advanced Education (now Federation University. He was awarded a Graduate Diploma of Education in 1982. He was a Curatorial Assistant at the Art Gallery of Ballarat from 1979 to 1981, and taught Art at Horsham Technical School between 1983 and 1985. From 1986-1897 Ewan Ross taught at the Wimmera Institute of TAFE, and was Lecturer in Painting & Printmaking at the University of Ballarat (nor Federation University from 1998-2005. In 2008 Ewan Ross was a finalist in the Fleurieu Biennale Art Prize. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection.
