Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Booklet provides a number of questions, 46, with clear answers. Rev Peter Gador-Whyte's first UCA Parish was at Orbost in East Gippsland.This is a local history book useful for research and written by a local.Two copies of a 76 pp book titled Pioneers and Pilgrims a history of the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches in Orbost and East Gippsland. These magazines were published fortnightly and distributed to the members of Orbost Apex Club. Apex clubs are volunteer service clubs whose members work in local clubs across urban, regional and rural Australia to raise awareness about social justice issues, assist the needy in a practical way and contribute resources to worthwhile causes.The Orbost Apex Club was a volunteer service club which contributed to the local community. Daughter of George Temple and Mary McAuslane of Castlemaine, Hilda married James Kerr in 1893 and lived at Lincluden, Raymond Street, Orbost. Her husband was a Scot who had come to Australia as a ship's doctor and practised in NSW before visiting Orbost on a government vaccination programme. He liked Orbost and returned there, its first doctor, until his death in 1928. Hilda was sometimes referred to as 'Mrs Dr Kerr.' She and her sisters Mabel Stewart Temple and Margaret Ferrie Temple were all talented writers and musicians.This book is an example of the talent of Hilda Temple Kerr. Hilda Temple Kerr (1874-1956) grew up in Orbost. She was very talented and published several books. It is reflective of the style of poetry in the early 20th century. A small green covered book of children's poetry. The title 'The Little Birthday Queen' is in gold print within a small frame above a stylised gold flower. Below in gold print - "Hilda C. This booklet records the trip made by members of the Orbost and District Historical Society (including Heather Terrell, Roy Hofen and Eddie Slatter) on 15 October 2024 to view sites associated with the 1914 blasting accident site at Newmerella. Others attending were Noreen Thomson, May Leatch, Gaye Pearson, Lois Crisp, Heather Terrel, John Philips and Geoff Stevenson. This blasting accident which killed three workers occurred during construction of the Bairnsdale - Orbost railway line. It involved two men, a father and son from the same family (John and Peter Carroll) and another worker John Sullivan, all of whom died. It was the worst accident to occur during construction of this railway. This booklet is significant because it records details of the site where the deaths of three men working on the railway construction at Newmerella occurred, located about two miles west of Orbost. John and Peter Carroll and John Sullivan 13th of March 1914 died in this accident. 11 page plastic covered booklet. The cover page has a large coloured photograph of a trail through bushland. These photographs are part of the Lawless Collection. The Lawless family lived in Orbost from 1907 - c 1920. John Francis Lawless had a saddlery shop. He died at an early age - 47 years - June 7 1912, leaving his wife, Elizabeth and seven children. The eldest son, Victor Rowland lawless volunteered for serv ice in WW1 but did not leave Australia because of illness. The second son, Edward Vincent Lawless (b 1895 d 1917) worked for McCoy & Co. in Orbost, coachbuilding, undertakers, general blacksmiths and farriers, prior to enlisting in WW!. He was trained as a signaller and was sent to France where he was killed in action on 9.10.1917. Elizabeth Lawless worked as a ladies' nurse (midwife) in Orbost prior to leaving the district in 1920.
