The Order was established in Australia in 1851.The Sandhurst Lodge 247 met at Queens Head Hotel (Lockwood cross roads) and was first mentioned in the Bendigo Advertiser in 1863.Ceremonial collar in red velvet with gold metallic bullion fringe around outside edge and lower inside edge and gold metallic lace to edge. Mt Beauty & District Progress Association was formed when people of the Kiewa works system was to become a rate paying society no longer dependent on the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. 30 community members met on 4th December 1957 to form the new organisation.Mt Beauty and District Progress Association represented, protected and guided the community in arrangements for the future. The Association became more than a Chamber of Commerce. It represented a wide range of interests, a strong voluntary labor force largely responsible for the development of many of the on-going organisations It encompassed and set a strong program for tourism seen as being the security guarantee of the future. This was realised when Mt Beauty won The Victorian Premier Town contest in 1958. Thick brown cardboard cover with two steel rings for all 10 Appendix pages attached. The first section is not attached but inserted. Captain Stanley Bruce, M.H.R. with Shire of Eltham Councillor William George Gray owner and manager of Allwood Nurseries at Allwood, Hurstbridge. They met on the occasion of the planting of trees to form the Anzac Avenue (of honour). Bruce would become Prime Minister of Australia in 1923. This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book, "Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971). The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' The Anglican Church at Kiewa. The first stone was laid on the 29th Oct. 1924. In 1879, the Yackandandah rector commenced services on Sundays in private homes in the Kiewa Valley. In 1911 Anglicans met in the Kiewa Methodist Church to elect a committee to organise financial offers and so it eventually became a vestry.The town Kiewa is in the Kiewa Valley. The church served other communities in the Valley. The book records the local populations and their commitment to religion. This trophy was won by Mrs H. Powell (Selina Jane) for the highest number of points in Classes I and J (Cooking) at the Orbost Agricultural Show, August 1927. Selena Powell came from Eden to Orbost at the age of 18. She met and married Henry James Powell in Orbost.This ornate silver plated jug has aesthetic significance as well as being representative of trophies awarded at an early Orbost Show.A tapered electro-plated silver jug / coffee pot with a hinged lid. It has an ornate handle. Engraved in a shield on the front is : "Presidents Trophy Won by Mrs H. Powell Class I. & J. Orbost Agricultural Show., August 1927." The Kew Elder Citizens Club Rooms at 'Southesk' were officially opened by the Hon EP Cameron MLC on 12 November 1956. The Club met at the Council-owned 'Southesk' until 1963 when new club rooms were opened at the corner of High and Childers Streets in 1963.One of a seminal group of photographs and documents (invitations) relating to the formation of the Kew Elder Citizens club at Southesk in the 1950s.Annotated black and white photographic positive of eleven women standing in the garden of Southesk on the corner of Cotham Road and Charles Street, Kew. Apart from the handwritten annotation on the front there is no other information on the obverse or reverse of the photograph. It is assumed, given the clothing and age of the women that this was a group of members of the Kew Elder Citizens Club. A lawn bowls contest in 1990 held at East Malvern RSL lawn bowls Club. The winner of the Dallas Brooks Trophy was Andrew Tucker and he met the previous year's winner, Thomas Tucker (no relation). The event was held annually and was a fundraiser for Legacy and well as a social event for legatees. A record of a social lawn bowls event that also raised money for Legacy.Colour photo x 4 of a bowls competition and two paper labels on pink paper.Label says 'A cheque was presented to Legatee Robertson by Mrs Hazel Williams, President fo the East Malvern RSL Ladies Bowling Club, on behalf of her members. Refreshments are served to player and spectators over the quarter finals, semi finals and finals held at East Malvern RSL. Each year the ladies kindly donate this money to Legacy.' Second label says 'These two gentlemen have more than winning Legacy's Sir Dallas Brooks Trophy in common. They each share the same surname - but no relation. Charles Edward Hulme was born in Stockport on 4/1/1897. He moved with his family to Ivanhoe in 1912. His obituary was included in The Victorian Scout (June 1963). Still operating (in 2020) from their new Scout Hall on the corner of Kilby Road and Kellett Grove, Kew.The Kew Troop was the informal title given to the 1st kew Scouts. The real photo postcard by local photographer J Earl Barnes shows the troop formally posed in uniforms in three rows with one scout reclining at front. At the centre back row is the Scout leader. The 1st Kew Scouts was one of the first Scout Troops in Victoria, being formed in 1909. From 1927 they met in a magnificent Scout Hall in Disraeli Street, Kew until it was demolished in 1993. Still operating (in 2020) from their new Scout Hall on the corner of Kilby Road and Kellett Grove, Kew.Large sepia photograph of a 1st Kew Scout in uniform. Given that it is a large-sized studio photograph that had been framed and kept for decades, it is likely to be one of the founders of the Scout Troop, perhaps Captain Peowrie. Like many of the early Scout Troops, a man with a military background initially led 1st Kew. Having joined the Scout Troop in 1911 or early 1912, Captain Peowrie went on to serve in the Army during the First World War, rejoining the Scout Troop at war’s end. He went on to be the Scout Leader and later Group Leader up until 1930, whilst also serving as acting District Commissioner for Kew and Deputy Chief Commissioner of Victoria.1st kew scouts, scout master 1920s, scout master in uniform 1920s -

The 1st Kew Scouts was one of the first Scout Troops in Victoria, being formed in 1909. From 1927 they met in a magnificent Scout Hall in Disraeli Street, Kew until it was demolished in 1993. Still operating (in 2020) from their new Scout Hall on the corner of Kilby Road and Kellett Grove, Kew.A Scout Troop is divided into smaller teams called ‘patrols’. At this time the Scout in charge of a patrol was called a patrol leader (‘PL’) and his assistant a ‘second’ (‘Sec’). Each patrol of boys would chose a patrol name, often an Australian animal or bird. Other 1st Kew patrols called themselves the Kookaburra Patrol, the Kangaroo Patrol and so forth. The shield the Emu patrol is proudly displaying is possibly the trophy for being the ‘Champion Victorian Patrol’.
