Document - Document, report, Review of Legacy Structure
The aim of this review was to take Legacy into the 1990s'. The main points to be considered were:- 1 - increase in widow numbers but an increase in the age of current Legatees. 2 - welfare/housing slight reduction in expenditure, handicapped dependants and widows activities a possible increase in costs. 3 - contacy activities should be re-organised. 4 - youth activities could be reduced due to decreasing numbers. 5 - expand youth leadership activities and take over responsibility of youth activities. This review was important due to a growing imbalance of Legatee numbers to widow and youth numbers, and possible increase in expenditure. White foolscap paper with black type, x 8 pages, of a review of Legacy's structure.Various notations in blue biro. Walking Stick, Mr Bendall Walking & Measuring Stick, c.1920
This walking stick, which is also a horse measurer, belonged to Atwell George Bendall, the well-known racing man, judge and handicapper in the Western District early in the 20th century. Born in the Caramut district, he was the manager of the ‘Green Hills’ estate at Winslow, a property owned by his father who also operated a livery and coach service at Caramut. When his father died Bendall carried on the family business until the end of the 19th century when he went to live in Warrnambool. A lover of horses, Bendall was an amateur rider of note and an owner of several racehorses. He also took a keen interest in coursing and owned and bred many successful dogs. In Warrnambool he took an interest in trotting and owned several trotters. For the last sixteen years of his life Atwell Bendall was a handicapper for most of the Western District race clubs and his keen judgment and knowledge of horses were greatly admired and appreciated. He was also a judge at agricultural shows and other horse events and this is probably where he was made use of this horse-measuring walking stick. He died in 1922. This is a most significant item as it belonged to the prominent early 20th century horse racing identity in the Western District – Atwell Bendall. It is also of general historical interest as an ingenious object – a walking stick doubling as a horse measurer. This is a mottled brown-coloured wooden walking stick, slightly tapered and with seven segments. It has a wooden knob at the top curved and indented in an acorn shape. The knob has silver coloured nails or tacks driven into the raised sections. The knob lifts out and is actually a wooden ruler with silver casing at the top of the ruler. Also at the top of the ruler, at a right angle to the ruler, is a lift-out metal piece which has a spirit level at the top end and this metal piece is used to rest on the horse to estimate its measurement in hands. There is a leather strap near the top of the walking stick for attachment to the wrist and a gold metal cap at the bottom of the stick. A silver band near the top of the stick has an inscription. ‘A G. Bendall Warrnambool’ atwell bendall, history of horse racing in the western district, history of warrnambool -

The article mentions that the annual camps run for two weeks at Somers Camp. It is a wonderful gathering of Junior Legatees, Legatees, and dedicated helpers. 50 junior legatees attended this camp (in 1992) with the personal attention almost one-to-one. Memorabilia - P'boro' Power Boat Club, Wokker Moore, 1991
The Peterborough Power Boat Club was formed "on an indoors sort of day" during the summer of 1946/1947 in the bar of the old pub (The Peterborough Hotel). There was an annual race, which was a bit of fun, not a serious race. The race was called The Schomberg Cup (which then evolved into a golf tournament) and varied from a single unhandicapped lap around some marker buoys to the highest aggregate score from a series of three handicapped heats. The night before a Calcutta was held at the Hotel at which well dressed patrons all bet on the winning crew. The event ceased probably due to the aging of the main instigators. This is significant because it was a much anticipated annual event involving the whole township, anyone with a boat entered. Document - Report, Annual Review of Operations 1987, 1987
This document is a review of Legacy operations for 1987. It highlights areas of Legacy operations that could be improved upon, and makes suggestions/recomendations on how to achieve these goals. For example - Paper No 1. Recruiting Korea, Malaya, Vietnam Legatees. Paper No 2 Retention of Korea, Malaya, Vietnam Legatees. Example 2. Paper No 5. Widows Assistance to Legatees, widows helping other widows in need eg. home/hospital visits, bereavement calls. Example 3. Paper 7a. HDCC Planning For the Future - 12th April 1986. How Legacy may be able to assist handicapped/disabled children and the parent caring for the child. Nine papers were presented for this review plus appendices. As Legatee numbers dwindle the thoughts behind the review are how to maintain the relevance and assistance of Legacy into the future. It was thought that a time span of three years projecting into the future was a suitable time frame. Therefore changes to be made would not have to be as dramatic or confronting if a greater time span of say five years was used.Set of reports and letters in a light blue cardboard cover, 44 white pages bound by blue binding tape.annual summary, planning, objectives -

Souvenir - Bay of Islands Championshiop trophy
Informal 12 hole golf event, played on Grand Final weekend. This event was started by a group of friends when there were few official golf tournaments played at Peterborough. The event was a stroke event with "mystery handicaps" ie you didn't know your handicap until you finished playing. The event was played on the Sunday of Grand Final weekend (except initially); Friday night traditionally was tea at Boggy Creek Pub and a Fishing Comp on Saturday. The name came about because three of the regular players, Ivan Voss, Bob Loader and R. McKendrick had a hut at the top of the dunes near Crofts Bay. They had a clinker boat on the beach as well. They subsequently built a house in Childers St. It ceased when the original participants were no longer able to play. The date of the first winner is 1980, last recorded winner is 1995.
