Sold to Halligan's, Duggans, Jerry Cowell until 1951 when Luths took over the building as a Car and Tractor agency. Next door was Bennett's Shoe Repair Shop which was later a Stock & Station Agency. In 1971 Jim Bannon moved his butcher business from the eastern end of High St to this newly built shop. He sold to Weirs in 1986 who sold to Frank Bourke in 1987. East Charlton Hotel built in 1875 by John Flug to replace his original log and bark inn built 1863. The first inn was about 100 metres behind this building and it was Charlton's first commercial building. The hotel was rebuilt by C. Klug in 1891. It was rebuilt as a two storey building in 1925. A colour photograph of The Crossways Motel in Marysville taken in the 1980s. The Crossways was built in the early 1920s and is the oldest building in Marysville. The Crossways historic inn survived the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires thanks to the efforts of its c-owner Greg Cherry and, in the days after the fires, provided a much-needed refuge to the Marysville community and firefighters. David FRAZER (1966- ) Born Foster, Victoria, Australia David Frazer works in painting, wood engraving, etching, lithography and bronze. He studied a B.A. Fine Arts (Painting) at Phillip Institute of Technology, followed by a Diploma of Education (Secondary- Art/Craft) at Latrobe University in 1991. He compled an Honours Degree in Fine Art (Printmaking( at Monash University in 1996, and between 1998 and 2000 Frazer undertook a Master of Arts (Visual Arts) by research: “Pastoral Melancholia”, at Monash University. David Frazer’s work offers a nostalgic image of Australia through its examinations of landscape, Australian buildings, sheds, and itinerant travellers. He held seven solo exhibitions between 1996-2006 in Melbourne, Sydney and a survey show curated by the Horsham Gallery, which toured Victorian regional galleries from 2004-2005. David Frazer’s work was seen in 37 group exhibitions between 1996-2006 including the 5th British International Miniature Print Exhibition in the UK, in the 2003. He more recently held a solo exhibition with Rebecca Hossack in London 2011. The old club house is in the background, now replaced by modern club rooms at the club, which still operates today. The club was formed in 1872 and the old club house was replaced in the 1950s with a larger complex of facilities. This was in turn replaced by another new building in 2011. Black and white copy of original photograph which shows the shop in Sussex Street owned by J. H. Morgan, the shop and dwelling owned by Richard Ching (telegraph pole in front), and the shop and dwelling owned by Annie Brown (née Nicholls). A small building between Ching's and Brown's shops may be the workshop of Dan McMillan, bootmaker. What appears to be a laneway between the Morgan shop and the Ching dwelling was once occupied by the Surface Hill Hotel (demolished c.1911). Shops in Sussex Street, Linton, c.1922: Morgan's, Ching's, Brown's. The original General Store at Research was also known as Doneys. It was located near where the present Main Road Research Shops are situated (opposite Ingrams Road). Charles Doney shown in front of the store. His wife Blanche is at the gate and his mother on the verandah. They had two boys Lance and Bill. The mother gave her daughter the opportunities and the graces. One of the children lived in a railway carriage behind the Church of England Research. A single chimney was unusual for a building like this. Houses Buildings Adams ...From the "Walk-Drive Tour of Linton", p. 22: ". . . this large Victorian house was originally the home of Hubert Adams, the proprietor of the Grenville Standard from about 1895 until 1909. It was subsequently purchased by the Shire of Grenville and was for many years the Shire Engineer's home."
