The residences were run by Melbourne Legacy to take care of children whose fathers had been servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself. The year is not known but it is approximately 1947, and was in an album which was a collection of photos taken in the 1940s and 1950s. The label with the photo says it was taken by Legatee Harry Rigby. Holmbush at 1267 Burke road, was one of the properties that Legacy used for Junior Legatees. It was purchased 1942.
