These pieces of fleece of a Lincoln sheep come from the property, Carrakoorte, in Grasmere, 13 kilometres from Warrnambool. Lincoln sheep are a large British breed producing strong, heavy wool. Carrakoorte was established in the 1850s and the Manifold family members were the owners in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1886 William Henderson, a dairy farmer and cheese maker, became the manager of Carrakoorte. He purchased the property in 1911 and the Henderson family retained the property until 2012 when the owner, Jim Henderson died. Carrakoorte was renowned for the breeding of Ayrshire Stud Dairy Cattle. This is a framed photograph of a large group of people at a wedding reception in April 1910. The occasion was the marriage of Mary Lee of Wangoom and Patrick O'Keefe, also of Wangoom. The wedding took place at St. Joseph's Church, Warrnambool and the reception was held at the property of St. Mary's at Wangoom which had been held by the Lee family since the late 1850s.Two marquees were erected to cater for over 400 guests and the hospitality included midday dinner, afternoon tea, high tea and supper. The Temperance Band provided the afternoon music. This photograph is of considerable interest, firstly because it depicts a Warrnambool/Wangoom 1910 wedding and secondly because it is an unusual photograph for the time, showing a very large group (perhaps over 400).This is a black and white photograph in a brown wooden patterned frame. This boudoir cap was worn by women wearing a negligee in the 19th century in their boudoir in the morning. In the early 20th century women wore these boudoir caps while sleeping to protect their hair styles. The name "Ogier"' inside the cap indicates that it has a connection to the Ogier family in Warrnambool.This is an interesting example of a woman's head-wear in the past.This lady's boudoir cap has white, discoloured, net with floral woven edging and leaves and dots in the body of the net. It is circular in construction drawn on thread to the centre of the head and decorated with a tassel folded over. There are two layers of lace, the bottom one is attached to a black, velvet covered wire and has bunched flowers with violet ribbon as decoration. The top layer also has the bunched flowers. The cap is lined with cream silk. The lace hangs down at the back. The brim is stiffened inside as is the crown. On the item inside is a small piece of red ribbon with a name written. These items come from the house "BIRCHWOOD" in Koroit Street, Warrnambool belonging to Dr. Angus and family. Dr. William Roy Angus (1901-1970) practised in Warrnambool from 1939 to 1970. In his later years Dr. Angus was an important ophthalmologist. He was prominent in Warrnambool in both medical and community affairs. The Angus home "BIRCHWOOD" at 214 Koroit Street (the site of the Warrnambool Police station today) was noted for its beautiful garden, lawns and croquet court and used as a meeting place and entertainment centre for vice-regal personnel and community organisations.These items are of considerable interest as they are connected to a well known doctor in Warrnambool and a notable house..1,.2,.3 These are three wooden door plates with a fine ridged front and a curved top and base. This album contains cigarette cards dating from the early 20th Century. The cards include Australian and English cricketers, Australian footballers, animals, racehorses, ships, Pacific Islanders, jockeys, actors and other famous people. The cards come from a variety of Australian and English cigarette companies. The album comes from the Edwards family who lived on the MORVEN property situated about 11 kilometres west of Branxholme in the Western District of Victoria. This property was sub divided in 1911 into 25 farms. There was once a Morven School and today there is a road of that name in the area.. This album is of considerable significance as it has historical value as an early collection of cigarette cards. Collecting of cigarette cards was a major social activity amongst young people, particularly in the first half of the 20th Century. It was a profitable advertising ploy for cigarette companies. Card and small object collecting by children today is still popular and used as an advertising mechanism. This album has a worn cover in faded green and fawn colours with a blue spine almost wholly detached. The back cover is stained. The cover has text. This stencil has been made to label packaged produce (wool bales, packaged meat etc) from a farm in Grasmere, near Warrnambool. The name, W. Robinson, suggests that this is William Robinson the son of James and Jane Robinson. James Robinson came to Australia in 1857 and he and his family farmed at Springvale at Hopkins Point, then at what was termed 'Manning's old Purnim Farm' on the Merri Rive at Grasmere (the Manning brothers, Frederick and John were early farmers in the district). The Robinson brothers, James and Stuart were well-known in the Warrnambool district as champion ploughmen. James's son, William married firstly Christina MacLennan and then Elizabeth Neale of Tooram, Allansford. William died in 1959 but the stencil was probably used on the property after his death. This farm stencil is of interest as a memento of farming at Grasmere in the first half of the 20th century.This is a metal stencil, oval in shape. In 1886 the Remington family business was sold but the name was retained and typewriters with the Remington Rand brand name were sold from 1927 on. Typewriters have now been replaced by computers. This box of equipment belonged to Dr Horace Holmes who would have used a typewriter in his medical practice in Warrnambool in the first half of the 20th century and perhaps would also have used a typewriter in the activities of the many community groups with which he was associated. Horace Iles Holmes (1877-1959) was born and educated in Tasmania and he completed a medical degree at the University of Melbourne. He commenced a practice in Warrnambool in 1906 and was the honorary Medical Officer at the Warrnambool Hospital and Warrnambool’s Health Officer. His practice was at ‘Ierne’ at the corner of Spence and Kepler Streets. He was an early member of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and was prominent in community affairs (foundation President of Warrnambool Rotary Club, a member of the Warrnambool Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, a Warrnambool Hospital Committee member, a long-term Trustee of the Warrnambool Methodist Church and President of the Lyndoch Hostel for the Aged Committee. In 1965 the organization was renamed the Returned Services League of Australia and assists military personnel, and their families, both past and present. The Women's Auxiliaries assisted in the past with the work of the R.S.S.A.I.L.A. and today assist with the work of the Returned Services League. This milk bottle takes its name from the Tooram property near Allansford but the exact decade when this milk bottle was used has not been established. Tooram was established by John Allan when he came to the Allansford area in 1839/1840 with his brother William who established the property of Allandale in the same area. John Allan held the property of Tooram until the early 1860s, with several owners from that date on including John Orlebar, Thomas Palmer and the Owen family. The property was sub-divided in 1897 with the Uebergang family owning Tooram Park from 1912 to 1992. The Torram property was well-known in the late 19th and early 20th century for its cheese production.This bottle is of great interest as one connected with Tooram, a dairying property that was one of the earliest farm properties in the Warrnambool area, being established in the Allansford area in 1839/1840, before the town of Warrnambool was settled.
