Newspaper, Ringwood Higher Elementary School - Exploration of the possbilities of having a higher level of education in the Ringwood area from 1922

Physical description

Three clippings from two articles from an unnamed newspaper dated 1922, stuck to a single A4 page

Inscriptions & markings

These clippings deal with the campaign by the local council to establish a higher elementary school, or high school, in the Ringwood area. The committee had been appointed and they had secured a site of 7 ½ acres about 54 chains from the railway station. It was proposed that the Council strike a rate of 3d in the pound for 4 years to meet the majority of the building expenses. The expected growth of Ringwood's population, aided by the railway access, and the almost universal agreement by the residents that a higher school is necessary, are positive signs that the plans will come to fruition in the near future. (The Ringwood High School was opened in 1954).
