Fire caused about $500,000 damage to Ringwood Secondary College at the weekend. More than 50 firemen battled to contain the blaze which began about 10.20pm on Saturday in the school's central block. This is the second serious fire at the school in two years. MFB district officer Phil Taylor described the fire as "the biggest in the eastern district since the last fire at the school". The arson squad is investigating the fire. Photograph: Croydon MFB senior fire fighter Peter Barker surveys the gutted school wing.
