The fishing spot known as The Lodge was accessed, for many years, via private property. This article is about an on site meeting, who attended and what was said in regards to the upgrading of a road for access to the river. Includes a letter to the Editor from Ronald Irvine stating their position. Enquiries made on March 11th 2021 with Ronald Irvine revealed that the road had deteriorated and vehicles were becoming bogged, requiring the farmer to pull them out with a tractor. When a ferry was the only way to cross the river, a bell was rung to call the ferryman. this letter explains that the bell was sold to raise funds for construction of the bridge. Mr W. B Cumming bought the bell and passed it to Mrs T. McKenzie. this statement was written and signed by Mrs W.B.Cumming and further states the expectation that a tower and belfry would be constructed, along with a plaque memorialising church members and Mr W.B Cumming.Significant because it specifies what happened to the Ferry call bell, which was very important when the ferry was the only way to cross the river. It is written in the front that it belonged to the Presbyterian Church however discussion remains about whether this church shared the building with the Church of England, Methodist or others. Mr Meek was the first person to build a house in Peterborough prior to 1858. Born in England in 1815 and came to Australia in 1838. this catalogue showcases his artistic skill. The art exhibition was curated by Joan Luxemburg as part of her PHD.Mr Meek is credited with building the first house in Peterborough. The collapse of one arch of the London Bridge rock formation on January 15th 1990 was a significant event for Peterborough residents.London Bridge is a major local tourist attraction. Prior to the collapse tourists could walk across the arches onto the rock platform and it was a regular fishing spot. The collapse of the arch was a significant event for the town. The site is still an important tourist stop. Falls of Halladale wrecked to the West of Peterborough and the rocky point of land is now named Halladale Point. the book includes information about the history of the ship and photos of her in action, as well as information and photos of the wreck.Jack Loney researched and wrote a number of books about many shipwrecks along the Victorian coast. The booklet's full title is 'Motorists and Tourists who assist to build The Great Ocean Road (Barwon Heads to Warrnambool) will have helped to found a worthy Memorial to all Victorian Soldiers and a National Asset for Victoria.' Date of the copy is unknown. The booklet is an appeal for donations toward the construction of the Great Ocean Road which, upon completion, would then be a Memorial to soldiers and, during construction, provide employment for returned soldiers. Demonstrates that gas and oil exploration has been occurring for at least 50 years. The hotel was an important social hub which burnt down in 1965. In order to rebuild a committee was co ordinated with the intention of re-building the hotel and running it as a co-operative. Significant as this document records the plan to rebuild the hotel, including costings. Ultimately the plan did not proceed but provides an insight into the value of the hotel perceived by the town. People involved include the vendor of the land, D.W.G. (Des) Moore; and committee members who probably included Tom Austin, Des Moore, Wokka Moore, possibly Rod Calvert. This hand drawn map of the buildings and out buildings was done for insurance purposes. It indicates which buildings are covered and which are uninsured. Significant as it shows a plan of the hotel as it was in 1921. Each building is labelled by its purpose, which provides an interesting insight into holidays of the time. Letter describes the writers' meeting with Mr W H Irvine of the 'Bay of Islands' and his time working on the farm.Significant as the letter describes day to day activities on the farm just after the first world war. The Peterborough Sandcastle competition has been running for at least 80 years. Wokka Moore was the first "Lady Mayoress", judge of the competition, who arrived with great ceremony using different means of transport over the years - always accompanied by a "Lady in Waiting". Traditionally, this was held on the Australia Day long weekend. Competition was divided into age groups, and the venue depended on whether the river was open or closed. (If it was open there is no sand on the Front Beach). Materials used could only be what was found on the beach. Currently (2021) the Sandcastle Committee is calling for photos, memorabilia and details of winners from over the years.This event has been running for a very long time , apparently uninterrupted. It is significant to the town because of its inclusive nature - there was high anticipation and planning by the children. The roles of Lady Mayoress and Lady in Waiting were keenly sought. Wokka Moore did the job for a long time then passed the baton. The article is about the drowning 100 years previously of James Irvine, proprietor of Peterborough House and later the Peterborough Hotel.James Irvine was so well regarded that a community collection raised funds to build the Memorial, which still stands today. John S. Irvine was a resident of Peterborough and one of the original trustees of the present golf club. He died in 1999. Rod Calvert's house (on the corner of Blair & Schomberg) was used as the clubhouse, prior to the purchase of the current clubhouse.This photograph is significant for two reasons: it depicts the second hole plus some of the off shore rocks as they were in 1999. Mainly this is significant as John Irvine, along with N. R. Calvert, & P. G. Clark, guaranteed a loan in 1972 for the purchase of the land and building which are now the golf clubhouse. Until the Hall was built, this clubhouse was the meeting point for the community, and continues to be for many events. Honour Board in memory of Ross "Snow" Murfett, who died in 1983, aged 33 and who's family and friends holidayed in Peterborough. His mates played an informal competition, in Timboon the first year, but thereafter at Peterborough. The tournament grew in popularity among his mates until the Golf Club incorporated it into their program and it became an annual event open to all.It is still popular with Snow's friends. The story behind that is that a cup appeared at the Golf Club (its unknown where it came from) which was inscribed with 1927 J. McCully Peterborough Golf club Open Champion. It was probably not referring to this Peterborough but this club did not hold an Open Championship at that time, so it was decided that they would. The first Open championship was held in 1980 but the record from 1927 was included as it was impetus behind the decision to hold the Open Championship, which continues to this day. The Peterborough Power Boat Club was formed "on an indoors sort of day" during the summer of 1946/1947 in the bar of the old pub (The Peterborough Hotel). There was an annual race, which was a bit of fun, not a serious race. The race was called The Schomberg Cup (which then evolved into a golf tournament) and varied from a single unhandicapped lap around some marker buoys to the highest aggregate score from a series of three handicapped heats. The night before a Calcutta was held at the Hotel at which well dressed patrons all bet on the winning crew. The event ceased probably due to the aging of the main instigators.This is significant because it was a much anticipated annual event involving the whole township, anyone with a boat entered. The golf tournament evolved from the P'boro Power Boat Race. The tournament is still a big event on the Peterborough Golf Club calendar. The Cup records the winners of the actual boat race, including the name of the winning boat and the skipper from 1949 to 1962.
