On the 1st of June, 1979, a panel event was held to address the topic of Arthritis and Sport. On the panel were Olympic distance runner, Ron Clarke (1937-2015); Davis Cup tennis player and Channel 7 tennis commentator, Allan Stone (1945-); Australian cricketer, Captain of the Carlton Cricket Club and sports writer, Keith Stackpole Jr (1940-); captain of the 'all Australia carnival netball team' (1946-47) and President of the Women's Netball Association, Eunice Gill (1918-1987); Olympic sprinter and Little Athletics coach, Denise Boyd (1952-); sports medicine physician, Dr K Threlfall; physiotherapist, Barry Richardson; orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Jonathan Hooper; rheumatologist and RAAV Executive member, Dr Murray Ingpen (1940-2015); Secretary of the Sports Medicine Federation, Dr Hugo MacKay; and President of RAAV, Dr Les Koadlow (1920-2006). In 1992, Coles/Myer made a donation to the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's Project Arthritis Action Appeal. The funds were raised at the Coles Myer Sponsors Race Day. In late 2000, Arthritis Victoria (formerly the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria) celebrated the 80th birthday of its founder, rheumatologist Dr Leslie Koadlow AO (1920-2006). On the 2nd of March 1995, the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases was officially opened at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The Centre was a joint project between the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria, the University of Melbourne, and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. In preparation for the construction of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's new building at 263-265 Kooyong Rd, Elsternwick, an event was held on the 8th of December, 1993, to commemorate the pegging of the site. On the 18th of September, 1980, the Box Hill Self-Help Group held a New Members Meeting at Action House, the headquarters of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV). Dr Leslie Koadlow AO (1920-2006), Rheumatologist, was the Medical Director of the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Hospital. In 1968, he co-founded the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV) with his secretary, Alice Petty, and one of his patients, Mollie Riches (1896-1979). This photo of Dr Koadlow and Mollie Riches appears on page 11 of the Vol. 9, July 1978 edition of RAAV's quarterly newsletter, News Review. It is captioned, "Vision Becomes Reality. On the 27th of May, 1994, the foundation plaque of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's new headquarters was unveiled. Named the Percy Baxter Arthritis Centre, the official unveilling was conducted by the Premier of Victoria, the Honourable Jeff Kennett (1948-). Located at 263-265 Kooyong Rd, Elsternwick, the construction of the new building was nearing completion.
