Often used in car racing and piloting aeroplanes, the owner of this watch – Dr Harry Jenkins – was enthusiastically involved in both. Manufactured by Melbourne watchmaking company, T Gaunt & Co, it was founded by Thomas Gaunt in 1856. This watch was probably made after his death in 1893, when the executors changed its name from ‘Gaunt’ to ‘T Gaunt & Co’. This version of the camera sold in Australian has Argus Lumar 75mm Made in Australia printed on the Lens mount though the camera was originally manufactured from 1958 - 1964 in Michigan, U.S.A . When Dr Harry Jenkins passed away in 1963, Churchill Island was left to Sister Campbell. She stayed on Churchill Island until ill health forced her to leave.
