Unearthed an interesting sidelight on Ringwood's original school which has just been pulled down to make way for Coles' new store. The foundation stone, which has been presented to the present Ringwood State School, bears the inscription, “Stone laid by Mrs. J. K. Turnbull, 15th August, 1889.”
Mrs. Turnbull was the wife of the station master and it appears that the station staff in those days took a leading part in social and community affairs. When the present school was built in 1922, the then station staff presented an eight-day clock to the school.

Another item in the short article mentions Mrs Copeland of Wantirna Road appointed as Manageress of the canteen at Ringwood High School. Mrs Copeland is a war widow with two of her four sons at the shcool.
And another mentions Mis Margaret Buck as candidate in the Jubilee Park for "Miss Tennis", with a social evening to aid her candidature at the home of Mrs H. E. Parker in Greenwood Ave.
